Way to leave me hanging! . Thank you for creating this character. . I heart Stella, and I love how all of her enemies greet her by full name & full title. That’s just full of awesome. . Wait, does that make me one of THX’s minions? Eesh.
Title had me laughing for a good half minute, but after that it was a bit confusing, wondering when that would fit in. . “Cute, in a funeral sort of way” is a perfect description of Emily. :)
You do get serious points for a fantastic title, but I think that this is a bit too abrupt. I’m not sure I have the ability to actually do anything about it, I just think it’s a bit too abrupt.

It is my absolute prayer that Tarzan, Nick, Howie, Ana Cristina, Stovohobo or some other blessed creature will come along and finish the series. . If that is not enough of a hint, I don’t know what to do with you people.
The beginning of Five Years Later is at: http://ficlets.com/stories/11737 . For a consice guide to all Simon (though not all Blake; sorry) stories, check out the timeline at: http://ficlets.com/stories/12429
Yeah, this handy little translation guide will serve you well into adulthood. Sorry, hun. . “I like you.” (Oh, come now. A girl is never this straightforward. It’s always through friends in a strange sort of ritual). Don’t you dare pretend that guys are any different. You know you know better than that. . Yeah, that wound is fresh. . LoA
“Dean of Students” is defined best as “Dictator.” . I didn’t have a Dean of Students until college, at which point, I can tell you, they become very nice individuals and exactly who you want on your side. Dean of Student Life pretty much rocks as well. . LoA
Jocks – can be followed by the suffix “strap.” I almost choked on water. . You do have your nerds/geeks/dorks defined incorrectly. http://ask.yahoo.com/20060818.html has the differences. . And big props to BARomero for being nerdy enough to look up the Breakfast Club letter. . LoA
Reminds me too much of my own job. I especially enjoy it when they ask each salesperson the same question, as if one of them is going to magically find a way to warp time and space in order to live up to the customer’s demands. . Calm down, Alexa. You’re working tomorrow. . On a side note, can I just say that I find it funny that THX apparently doesn’t see therapy as a service industry? . :) LoA
It was a nice story, but not especially funny. Is that because it seemed a little too real for me? Yes, possibly. Good to know that wound is still fresh.
Took me a minute to figure it out, but then it was hilarity. . Now, when I’ve had some time to reflect, I think we must all consider these important questions. What kind of doctor is the Dr. Pepper? What does s/he specialize in? Is s/he an MD, a shrink, or a doctor like Dr. Phil is? Or did some college give an honary degree in exchange for a commencement address. . Thank you for bringing these most dire issues to the forefront of my mind. . LoA
That’s just fabulous. . Who even knew that Jon was friends with Charlie Brown? That totally never appeared in the Gossip mags. I’d have noticed. . I want a full week of Nermal strips. Really, that’s just a bucketload of disaster, right there. ;) . LoA
Love the flying toasters. . I might have liked it better but _ I’ve never seen _BG. I know! I’m sorry! If they start repeating from the first, I’m there. . LoA.
I read this on the bus and it made me laugh out loud. Rather embarrassing, but totally worth it. . And when the cops come, the victims can tell them it was Thomas Edwin Jameson’s mother. How hard can it be to find her? ;) . LoA
LOL to THX’s comment. . Not sure what I think about it either. I believe it requires some meditation. . I am, however, incredibly honored to have inspired some of your creativity. . LoA
Sarah’s immediate answer was no, as any person of sound mind should reply . Thus proving I am not of sound mind. I’d have rushed in there fast as anything. . LoA
As usual, superb banter. . Who’s the commedian who says that real irony is a girl singing a song called “Ironic” when she doesn’t know the meaning of the word? That popped it my head. . And now the song’s there too, which is the only thing I hate about your piece.
I actually haven’t read the other piece (sorry; will do so soon), so I just thought this was about some twisted poor sad sack. Turns it out it was! . The grammar needs work, especially the shifting verb tenses. . LoA
You also learn other important things like lacrosse and how fish and bread like to multiply themselves at the drop of a hat. You only learn later that the Bible isn’t quite historically accurate, but that’s irrevelant. . Very good way to open any story. I also liked the things you had to say.
“We go to see to the welfare of our child.” . I mean, sure, you hear about demon spawn and everything, but you never just go around imagining it, do you? I am intrigued.
I would think 5 Christs could be very helpful, but not so much in a violent way. Unless they think this is like short-changing people on Temple grounds. :) . Gonna be some good stuff when they see the other cross-over angels, too.
Seems to be a scene from many boys’ childhoods. (Perhaps girls, too. Not this one, but I don’t want to stereotype based on my own personal experience.)
Yeah, I remember when the Office of Homeland Security was advertising that we get duct tape & Saran Wrap for our personal protection. . I was like, “Look I know duct tape can do a lot, but protection from bombs? Couldn’t I just hide under my desk?” (That’s a Vietnam joke, kids.)
Congrats on the 3k comments. I just passed 2k myself, so you’re far ahead of me. . I think the challenge is very interesting, but I don’t know where to take it.
The line All things bright and beautiful, great and small, wise and wonderful is directly stolen from the song All Things Bright and Beautiful, written by Cecil F. Alexander, Hymns for Little Children, 1848.
Not where I was gonna take it, but There was a Simon is just too perfect of a line. Plus I love how the first paragraph was something we could all relate to, and then it turns out to be some other worldly reptile. . And as far as Tarzan & I taking all the credit? I think we’re both hoping you’ll come in and write one bang-up magical spell thing towards the end. . It was an absolute pleasure to read your work again.
Welcome to the series, Orange Oreos, as a reader & as an author. . I’d like to point out that as Satan is merely an angel (albeit a renegade one), his equal is Michael, not God. Angels are lesser beings than humans, so we do have control over Satan. . Of course, we only have that power if we are aware of it. Whether or not Simon, Blake, et al are aware remains to be seen.
Featured Ficlet! Awesome! . (For any new readers, the beginning of this Simon story is: http://ficlets.com/stories/11737 . For a consice guide to all Simon (though not all Blake; sorry) stories, check out the timeline at: http://ficlets.com/stories/12429
A purely nonsensical Ficlet is wonderful (there was an early one about library elves that was just absurd to the extreme). . However, writing a one-sentence Ficlet or filling up half of the page with punctuation just to meet the character limit is rude to the original author, the readers, and Ficlets in general. . And THX did suffer the gravest of injustices in this line.
I can say that the first time I was sequeled (off of a poem, not a short story), I felt a surprising amount of pride. Something I had written inspired someone else to write. Can you imagine a better feeling for a writer to have?
I’ve often noticed that people’s biographies will say, “Please comment” or something like that, but they themselves haven’t commented. . Because I wanted comments, I started writing my own. (And Kermit, it took you & THX 3 months to get more comments than I had.) . Although, I will add that if something is terribly, terribly wrong, I’d prefer to send a private note to the author. Leaving it in their comment space is like having a teacher say, “This is crap,” in front of the whole class.
R_M, I think you made your case quite clearly. I’m only upset that your tips are all sequelled off of this one, rather than being a series. . If you want people to actually understand what you’re writing, you should follow basic grammar, which does allow for dialect. . Some authors have invented their own styles or words, but they used an existing guideline as the base. . As my professor used to say: “Learn the rules before you break them.”
A blessing on your head, R_M. . When I published my very first Ficlet, I used indenting. Then I went and looked at it, saw that the indenting didn’t take, so I went back to edit it. . Ever since, I have used paragraphs. I put them in while I’m writing, so it’s not a matter of taking words out. . When I see someone else’s page hasn’t been sectioned into paragraphs, I either don’t read it or rate it a star lower because the author has frustrated me so much.
I think it’s nice that both sides of you obsess over the same thing. Mine have completely different viewpoints, and the arguing gets rather intense. LoA.
Yeah, social workers lose their power when you kill them. . Where was the conscience when he killed the guy? . I loved the dialogue, and the surprise ending.
God does have a sense of humor – witness the duck-billed platapus as a for instance (another Dogma ref). . As for the series, I’m just gonna say “Ditto” what Stovohobo wrote. Someone get on this, soon!
this story is on its way to being a banned substance. I understand completely, Tad. . This whole arc is one of the best in Ficlets, and this segment was as artfully done as the rest of it. . All hail the king. . LoA
Man could not survive the sights or sounds of The Creator, thus The Creator crafted Metatron out of Himself… “Went through five Adams before we realized that” (Dogma, paraphrase). Loved it, Nick. LoA
Damn Blake’s lesbian fantasies . She also doesn’t seem to think the timing’s a bit odd, though I suppose the other gents might take a break from fighting. LoA.
Simon felt it when Angela latched onto him, the same hitch in his heart he’d feel when they lay on the couch watching a movie, and he’d run his fingers through her hair, at peace because she was so near. . Awwww . . . . Extremely well done.
The Book of Ezik, The most powerful book of magic in the world . Well, yes, who doesn’t know that? . Seriously, thank you for sequelling. I thoroughly enjoyed it. . LoA
This was how she chose to get close to him? . They do say that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, but I don’t think anyone meant to go literal.
When you started off talking about the restaurant, I was afraid he was going to swallow another waitress. Having two women in your stomach can be uncomfortable.
People Bismol and Guest In Intestine Both brilliant.
Someone had decided to beat the stuffing out of her, and when they couldn’t, they gutted her. Don’t understand how anyone could see that as an Act of God. . Loved Mr. Potato Head and Barbie, though. Great stuff.
Highly imaginative. I liked Chief Sharpie passed out cold when he heard the news, and that stain ain’t coming out of the office carpet for a while best. . LoA.
...I wonder if he uses AXE body wash… And this time the comments-rating goes to Fyora. . The beginning for this story really starts at: http://ficlets.com/stories/10848 but if you want the quicker version: http://ficlets.com/stories/11737
That was enticing. . Lilith’s endgame is obvious: there are two kittens that she has and — if Metatron plays nice — she’ll let him name one. He’s leaning towards naming the one kitten Fluffy. ;) – Nick. Makes me wish we could rate comments.
One of these days I’ll sue you for the whiplash you’ve caused. - Nick. . I’m thinking it’ll be a class-action suit. But we’ll all be smiling too much to get a good reward.
That was just funny, but it illustrates an important point: superheroes should never leave their suits at home when they go to fight in a war. . Never.
I’m not sure how that’s actually a helpful superpower, but it’s a funny Ficlet. . My only complaint is the grammar – try breaking it up into paragraphs.
And congratulations on being the Featured Ficlet! Hopefully this brings more people to The Insane Knight: http://ficlets.com/stories/1100 and The Low-Carb Kid: http://ficlets.com/stories/1085.
They know enough by know to ignore me when I go on that tangent. Yes, my friends also get that glazed-over look when I mention Ficlets. . flute_faerie7, welcome to the Meeting and thanks for your sharing.
I’d say that I’m happy to have more people in treatment, but I don’t think that’s exactly where we are. . I say, fight the treatment and carry on in your awesomeness. . LoA.
it worked in her favor if they underestimated her and assumed she was just another stupid bureaucrat Awesomeness. . we’re taking orders from Agent West That’s just awesome from beginning to end, now.
favorite line: I dabble with style. . We were derailed, of course, by me with my many digressions so I tried to reset things right. Yeah, but they were interesting digressions, so I’ll forgive.
I did mention Simon’s color in my story: http://ficlets.com/stories/11590, but it wasn’t one of the main ones. . Also, it doesn’t matter. . Nice Ficlet, Howie.
I don’t think Nick has any right to complain about extra characters, what with all the infected stories we’ve been reading. ~ I thought it was cool to find out where Hoven had gone to.
