As always, some good stuff from Stovohobo. This was my favorite line: “He was good at hiding before she came, before those mirrored eyes taught him to see.”
“Just show me one Herminerm who can even pick up on something that’s right in front of him!” Antennae don’t have to detect anything, they could just be an evolutionary hangover, or they could act as another set of hands.
Wow, I think it is great how you make the first one to notice a problem be a control operator, but I am confused about what the control operator’s job is.
WOW!! I didn’t expect to actually get mentioned, much less get third place! Sorry for not looking at this earlier, I’ve been busy at college getting edumacated.
Ha! I think I’ve got the perfect detective idea. Now I just have to come up with a mystery idea. By the way, it might be to long for one ficlet, so I’ll sequel for the continuation.
Was I trying to make a point? (Stares blankly for a minute) No, I don’t think so, just wanted to do it. If you would look closely, I put 64 digits on there. If I had just left them as a bunch, it would have ended up as the minimum length for a story, but now it is three times that.
The lyric I used was “I am not afraid to keep on livin’, I am not afraid to walk this world alone.” from the song Famous Last Words, by My Chemical Romance.
I hope that what you talk about in this story is not real, because it paints a picture of somebody who is miserable. The fact that it paints such a good picture is very good thing.
????: The funny thing about Pictures of You is that I got it when iTunes offered it for free. One Time, One Chance: So, which songs and artists do you know?
NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! This can’t be it! There has to be more! I need to see how it all ends. I would make my own addition, but I can’t write on that level. It would be a disgrace to the story.
I think YodaOnCrack is correct, though how will we ever know unless Stovhobo says. Besides, if he tells us the story, how will he kill all of us if he doesn’t know where we live?
How long have you been doing this? I’ve been doing this for about three months and I’ve only done 34. You are insane! I’m glad you do it, though, because talent like yours needs to be practiced. I might be trying to do the second challenge, but I can’t think of what genre to do.
Fyora, it actually was supposed to be a sequel to your challenge, but I messed up. Mycroft, I wasn’t planning on taking it anywhere and I don’t have any idea how to do it, so I would love to see how you or anyone else takes it.
The best way that I can think of you getting people to read a “mature” ficlet is to attach it to a challenge. Believe me, quite often, streams of conciousness do not make very good reading.
I hope there is some sort of base at the edge that is friendly to the inhabitants, because it should extend from the orbit of Venus to the orbit of Jupiter. This is assuming that we can share the cost of construction with other species. This idea came from the book Playgrounds of the Mind and was concieved by Dan Alderson. Maybe I should note that on my ficlet. Your ficlet puts an angle on this that I never thought of. Good job.
Anybody who reads this is probably thinking that the speed of the ship is probably extremely fast, but if you were to work it out, you would find that it would only be 166 lightyears long. That isn’t a third of the distance to Betegeuse, one of the stars in the constellation of Orion. This shows that space is damn big!
I must be strange, I never IM. Of course, your computer needs to be connected to the internet to do that and people have to realize that you are on, so maybe that’s my problem. I like email better.
Lessa=Dragonflight, by Anne McCaffrey “They’ll take Campbell’s” I said, “and like it.”=Assimilating Our Culture, That’s What They’re Doing!, by Larry Niven Colding=Ancestor, by Scott Sigler “I’ll be back.”=”The Terminator” “no bout adoubt it”=Infested, by Scott Sigler.
Reading three books in one week is nothing, I’ve truly read that many in one day. Scott has one of the most unique perspectives on the world that I’ve ever heard of.
My guess to the riddle is a dragon’s egg? I don’t know if it’s right, but it was the best I had. By the way, what is Dragonology, is it a series, or a dragon encyclopedia?
Where are you that a book costs you twenty bucks? I mean, if you get a big hardcover book, that makes sense, but if you get a paperback, it might cost you ten. Oh, and why read a book only once? I’ve read some of my books 20 times. As you can see, this ficlet made me think, which is usually a good thing.
I’m so glad the only Apple product I have is an old iPod shuffle that I barely use. Hopefully, that allow me to be led astray to gentler technology, like nuclear bombs and killer robot soldiers. Good ficlet.
The only reason to use those abbreviations in IMs is because it allows the conversation to go faster, but in spoken language, it just slows things down.
My style is writing what I like and what I think other people would want to read. I might enter a contest, I might not. I’ll keep my style if you keep yours. Good job.
That is a good ficlet, the only thing that I would change is spelling distroyer as destroyer, but that is not such a big mistake. Keep up the good writing.
As far as I am concerned, if you imagine that there are two spaces after every line, this is a one sentence ficlet at nirvana. Go ahead and complain. Like I say in the ficlet, if you can do better, go ahead.
I was wondering, have you (the author) ever read the short story titled “How Lonesome a Life Without Nerve Gas”? It was on Escape Pod a while ago and the weapons in your ficlet reminds me of the weapons in the story. This is not a bad thing, but an interesting twist to the technology.
Good story, though you should refer to the powers as telekinesis. I thought that she was reffering to just thinking about throwing furniture but no actually doing it.
I feel that this story requires a little explanation. I wrote a note to him saying that I will be the future ruler of the Galilean Moons of Jupiter (Io, Callisto, Europa, and Ganymede) and that he will regain the position mentioned in his profile. This story is his response to my note. That’s about all you need to know to understand this.
If you like a character in any of my stories and wants to use him in yours, the only thing that I ask you do is to send me a note with the URL, so I can read it.
92% of teenagers listen 2 rap, put this in ur profile if u still listen 2 real music -????
I’ve always wanted to write stories, but I’ve never been able to get past a certain point. That is why ficlets are so cool. The point I usually get stuck at is just about the perfect length for a ficlet.
If anybody wants to tell me something about any of my stories, please, please leave me a comment, or if you don’t want everyone to see it, send me a note.
If you want to find any of my stories, but all you know is the title, just pick any one word from the title and search for it in tags.
Some quotes: “Pain is your friend, it let’s you know you’re still alive.”
“A journey brings us face to face with ourselves.”
“I will face my fears, I will let them pass through me!”
“Practice makes permanent, perfect practice makes perfect.”
“Great minds are fascinated by simple things, simple minds are fascinated by everything!
