...Also, ‘prophetize’ is a very uncommon word. Only one dictionary I could locate online has it. Most dictate the correct word as ‘prophesy’, which I used elsewhere correctly.

Hmm. I did that intentionally, because I figured the average person- and thus the poor sap in this dialogue- wouldn’t know how to use that word in a sentence. I think I’ll go back in and add elipses before and after the word to indicate that the speaker was searching for the word but couldn’t find it. Thank you for your critique.

I definitely understand the sentiment here. You’ve captured the joy of that moment where you figure out what that song is that you have stuck in your head with meaningful nostalgia, and it’s beautifully done.

It made me giggle. Too few people acknowledge that God has a sense of humor.

I think perhaps ‘oxymoron’ is the only word that can accurately describe some people. Now you have me thinking about what one word I would use if asked to describe myself in that way, and I really have no idea.

I, for one, wouldn’t mind spending eternity as a Malkavian. I’d rather be completely loony than have a penchant for making living sculptures a la Tzimisce or getting down with my dead relatives a la Giovanni.

I believe I’m in. Now if I can just think of something mundane to sexualize…

Hmm… if I can think of a twist I like, I’m in. This sounds like fun, and I’ve enjoyed reading everyone else’s entries so far.

Saw it coming, but that’s probably because I have a friend who had a stillbirth, so my radar went off as soon as I saw the title.

I love the way you’ve pulled it off, though. The senseless joy the neighbor has and her refusal to let the grieving mother get a word in edgewise is very (tragically) realistic.

I hate to be the stickler, especially since it takes so many more letters to write than “schizophrenia,” but any psychiatrist would know that schizophrenia is experiencing hallucinations- sights, sounds, smells- as reality when they are not. What is exhibited in this dialogue is dissociative identity disorder, formerly known as multiple personality disorder.

Technicalities aside, it’s a great twist!

Thanks for the green light to post two. This was a really fun topic!

Good luck to everyone who enters!

Limit of one entry? I’ve written two ficlets in response to this, and I’m having trouble deciding which one to submit!
