Very well done. The story was nicely shrouded until the word count got smaller and the story became more clear. Give your brain a rest – you earned it.
I like the detail in this story. I also like the implications. My favorite kind of Ficlets are the ones where I make up what happens next, so this one is great on that front.
Here’s a challenge – this story has 18 lines and 18 words in the first line. The second line has 17 lines, the third 16 and so on all the way to the last line of one word. The story also achieves “ficlet nirvana.” It was challenging, but fun.
