Beauty in it’s most haunting form. Excellent work describing the moment in a way that brings the reader to feel empathetic with both the victim and his beloved. Great job!
That would be pretty awesome…too bad I can’t play an instrument and my singing makes small children cry. Sigh…maybe author is better suited for me. Nice work! LoA
Great concept, I think almost everyone feels like this at one time or another. But I think you could formulate it a bit differently to make the reader care more about the character.
Ok well I admit I cheated and read the last line first…but great story, I love the descriptions. If I hadn’t cheated I really would have been rather confused. LoA
I agree with all that was said already, very powerful. Your descriptions really make the words seem like more a character than the person. Great work. LoA
Thanks so much! I really got quite a kick out of this challenge. And the fact that people are still confused with my gender is rather entertaining also. LoA
Oh dear…our classroom is on the top floor with big windows that are almost always open. They’re just beckoning to me, yearning to be stared out of. Well, at least better than jumped out of. Great story!
I think the last two lines really tie together the story. He wants to make her feel better, make himself feel better. Very nice story, one of my favorites in a while. LoA
Wow okay, I so didn’t realize that this is actually a song lyric. Hehe maybe I ought to read the prequel first, or maybe you should just post some orignal stuff ;)
I love the repition in this, it gives this poem a lyric-like feel. You capture the feeling of living an average life but making the most of it very well. You have a great feel for prose, I wish I could write poetry like you. LoA
You can make even the most brutal and unintelligent things seem eloquent and slightly less mundane than they really are, a quality I rather admire in you. Nice work. LoA
Really great sequel, I’ll have to read the whole series. Now that I actually live in Germany, I find the country’s history even more fascinating than before. And to see it depicted in such a creative way is a nice change from the textbook standard. LoA
Awesome dialogue, I can see why you picked these two figures. Their contrasting views and influence on our world’s history make them an exemplary pair to put together.
I don’t want no clown loving me! That thing has always scared the living daylights out of me… Great dialogue, way to sum up the average salesman in such a small amount of words. Nice work.
Ah thanks THX. I must admit, I always do a little dance of joy when I get a comment from you on one of my stories, they’re always so supportive and constructive. LoA
Great work, this character is very easy to relate to. I love her determination and can really feel the slight detachment she feels from the rest of the world. LoA
Oh and congrats on comig up with a unique and actually challenging challenge, desperately needed. And of course, congrats for your amazing ficleteering.
Just what I needed. Now that I’m officially a foreigner, I need feel no shame in mercilessly expressing my opinions about the politics and way of life of America. evil grin
This is brilliant, absolutely brilliant. I agree with Melia, the foreshadowing is great. And the last line really pulls the whole thing together, without revealing too much. Sequel coming up?
Hehe I would honestly be a bit freaked out if my boyfriend wanted to paint a portrait of me with mayonaise. Normally I’m open for a lot of things, but this is just a bit too creepy.
I like this, though I do agree with THX. I’m not comfortable with the fact that someone else is the only reason I live my life. Because that someone else won’t always be there. And what happens then?
Hmm now I rather liked this story, very nice personification of something that normally doesn’t get a second glance…I don’t know what posseses people to waste their no doubt invaluable time leaving comments like that, but I can quite imagine that they’re of the pubescent, highschool boy type.
I agree, some things can get a bit annoying, but everyone is entitled to their opinion, and of course, has every right to voice it. I for one, cannot stand Ficlets with titles that could compete with the actual story for content.
A most well recieved start I’d say. This could go in some many directions, as everybody has already said. Let’s see if I can formulate some competent sentences and sequel this.
I like the subtle frustration behind this, it’s not too overwhelming, but still gets the point across. And may I just say to Bridget4552 (Cassie is it?), let her write what she wants, it’s a better outlet than bitching about it, isn’t it? LoA
I agree, you really got the Vegas feel in this story. You can tell that this guy has a pretty laid-back, slightly arrogant attitude, which fits nicely into the Vegas scene.
I like how you set the mood of this story, very erethreal and slightly haunting. I can very much get a feel of what this girl looks like, nice work. LoA
I’m not sure if this is the right word, but I find this story empowering. No, that’s not the right word, is it? Anyways, I agree with Nadia, you do have a great great grasp of words.
As Kermitgorf said, congrats on 115…I can’t say I’m #2 on your list, but that’s understandable. I’ll see if I can come up with something for this nifty little challenge.
Love it. I’m guessing you’re also one of the people who can remember absolutely random facts but nothing school related? If you are, welcome to the club ^^.
This could definatley spin off into a great series if you continue with it. Nicely done, I like how you captured their emotions and fears without watering it down.
I’d give anything to be that age again. I miss the days of having nap-time in school and being able to spend the day coloring and playing, instead of torturing my way through physics and French .
Hey I’ve been around quite a while too. Nine months now…first ficlet was number 3127. Wow…that seems ages ago. And I still haven’t written 100 ficlets.
Very sweet. Valentine’s Day was always such a big deal in grade school, everybody was poking fun at the people who recieved valentines, all the while wishing they had recieved one too.
Man I hate Valentine’s Day, no matter if I’m single or not. Too tacky, commericialized, and all around nervous-making. I may be able to use this agression towards a Ficlet ;)
I can totally identify with this. I got the chance to start over too…not exactly freewillingly, but it turned out to be great. Everybody needs a life overhaul sometime.
Now is that a good thing or a bad thing? Now it’s absolutely true of course. I just sat down and started writing with no plan in mind. But I’ve always considered bizzare as a compliment ^^
