I love what you’re doing here. I’m in a dry spell, myself, so I can’t help, but I want to use this to show off my own “orphans” soon… I have far too many.
It will go on… I suggest to whoever adds next that they focus on someone other than Simon. Just an idea that might help someone think of something. I myself am blank.
I have a lot of things like this. I usually write about one in particular. He was on here for a few days, then his computer broke. And it likely won’t be fixed until we’ve both forgotten about this site completely.
Don’t feel too bad about putting Grand Awesome Marshall on your resume, I’ve put “Honorary Nerd” on some of mine before. (for scholarships)
At my high school, there was a club called “Nerds R Us” and I became an honorary member. I would’ve been a full member (even though it was an all male club, but they had to let me in because I got better test scores than the president) but I changed schools.
Nice complexity with the title and what’s going on! “Lord of the Flies” (And you mean Beelzebub? or Beelzebul? I’ve never seen it spelled as you spell it.) Just curious what you see them feeding on…
As to the tides, it could be opposite the moon, like I mentioned, as well. And the sun plays a role too. Observe: http://www.mesa.edu.au/friends/seashores/images/tides.gif
Asteroid: any of the small rocky celestial bodies found especially between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter Meteor: any of the small particles of matter in the solar system that are directly observable only by their incandescence from frictional heating on entry into the atmosphere Meteoroid: a meteor in orbit around the sun Meteorite: a meteor that reaches the surface of the earth without being completely vaporized
Yeah, you’re right about the Robot Chicken thing… I watch that show occasionally. If it makes you feel any better, chances are my eyesight is worse than yours. Proof of eyesight problems: I can’t read the giant E at the top of the charts. Without glasses, the whole paper is just a light gray.
I know vaguely of The A-Team because I’ve frequently been on the receiving end of jokes regarding my presence on the “Academic Team” (abbreviated A-Team)
...I wasn’t even alive in 1986 though. :/ After observing the youtube video, I’ve seen that car in a lot of shows I’ve seen, now I know where it came from! Yay!
This is great! Sorry I had missed it until now, I might try to continue this from where you’ve taken it…It’ll take some time though, I have a lot of other ideas in my head right now.
I’m not in the League, but might I suggest “Awesome-ble” to be put in the rally cry somewhere? I don’t know about anyone else, but that sounds like it would be hilarious to me. :D I can’t wait to see where this goes, too. There’s a lot of things you can work with.
Also, if anyone still wants to contribute to the challenges, you won’t get an award, but I’d love to read it. :) You may just have to inform me that you did so.
Wow. I admit it took me a bit to grasp the concept of this, but now that I’ve got it, it blows my mind. I’m not sure that makes sense, but it’s a good thing nonetheless.
Just awesome. The funniest part, for me: My boyfriend’s name is Steven. Even though it’s a fairly common name, the fact that you picked that name particularly adds a touch of personal hilarity.
Yes, I want to know what stopped her as well! [Also, I love the “And they give me gas.” part as for why she doesn’t like eating children. It’s like the comedian who said one of his reasons for not eating babies is “I don’t have time.”]
Another note: This came to me while sitting in church for the final advent service. I’m not sure if that means it was blasphemy, or if God has a great sense of humor.
I wish I thought I was up to it. But I read uselessness’s ficlet before I read this, and I cannothope to compete with that. Lovely idea for a challenge though.
Of course, I have left myself a loophole in case someone decides to make a great ficlet for this and it comes out beautifully, in which case I will at least mention that fact at some point.
Apparently I really don’t know the meaning of fricative, it’s just a fun word to say. Does it matter that I don’t even know a way to find the definition of fricative? Not for this ficlet! All you need to do is FEEL what fricative is supposed to mean. Anyway, this is an example, I’d rather it be prequeled if you feel like messing with it, but neither it nor its affiliated attachments will likely be part of the official contest.
Ah…I’m not quite sure exactly. I think my definition of bad leaned toward “unreadable” If you look up “Smiley-sun and the Nazi, A Retelling” in my ficlets, then look at what I wrote it from, that combination is pretty much what I’m going for. Or look at the “Blocked” & “Blocked from my heart” things, they do basically the same thing.
I want to know more about how she feels with him inside her. Does he wiggle? Does that feel good? I like a lot of descriptions, especially when it comes to new ideas like this.
I’m really looking forward to what you have planned to shock the narrator the next morning. I’ve just realized though, that I don’t know the gender of the narrator? So far, that’s my only complaint. :)
I think I remember Up All Night…If it’s the one I think it is, I’ll sequel it when I finish my online test (or possibly sequel someone’s sequel, if they get to it first.) Yes, it was the one I thought it was. :D It shall be done!
Very lovely continuation, I have a feeling that you know more about 40k than I do. But you missed a detail: There’s a Tyranid in the closet. :D I’d love to see you continue this, since you know a bit more than I do.
Hmmm…I’m not good at raps, myself. But this makes me want to write one about myself. I’m not sure much rhymes with “Cartagan” though, other than sweaters. Great job :D
haha, cliffhanger. I have a few things I must say though: 1: Her name is Katherine, the boot camp man said it. 2: It is written in 1st person, from Alana’s Point of View. The point of view change kinda messed with my head.
2 things about this jumped out at me: 1: Barbara is my name o: 2: I’m reminded of Shaun of the Dead? Shaun’s mom is named Barbara… Not your best…Realistic though.
Out of curiosity, which kind of Indian? I think that vital detail is missing from this story. (You’d be surprised how vital it is, because you don’t know what sort of accents to imagine he has, or what his facial structure would be like.) Other than that little problem, I enjoyed the real-life-ness of this story. I’d like to see it continue. :D
Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear…I have a feeling that my college years are going to be horrible with them re-making Barbarella for 2009. (Though I have no idea what it is really about) (My name is Barbara, in case none of you have figured it out.)
Strange that I had planned something like this previously, but never had the courage to have it pan out… I suppose this gives me an excuse to try it…It will take some time though.
Coordinated, uncoordinated, it doesn’t matter, just someone HAS to make sure that the better ficlet is written. (And a “couple” will be credited with the win) Also, they can then switch roles and enter again.
I’m enjoying this story, so far. :D But may I request that you put more spacing into your ficlets, rather than just between paragraphs? It helps people read it more easily.
I would’ve liked to see that spaced out a bit, but the lack of space does add to a sense of urgency/danger. I do like the “engine roared like the devil’s laugh” line, but in general, I think you need more description. Very good otherwise though. :D
But he smote/smited the dinosaurs, including velociraptors, right? Then again, God has smitten/smote/smited humanity many times and we survived, and some of us still follow him. Hm…Veloci-Noah?
Oh dear, oh dear… Mmm…Do you know anything about Stargate SG-1 and Ascension? (If not, wiki it) I think that might be a good course of action, as opposed to suicide, considering the amount of time that would take.
Yes, yes, but I wanted him to be a good guy…(at least secretly, like a double agent) And I wanted to see him obsess over Simon henceforward, but you see it how you see it. :D I just don’t know how Simon’s going to get out of this.
Oh no!! I never would’ve expected that of Luc!!! Absolutely beautiful though, the idea of it. It just makes me sad that you made Luc secretly evil. :( That figures though, of course.
That was jaw-dropping. It took me a bit after I finished reading to realize what had actually happened, and my mouth actually hung open for a bit. In my opinion, at least for this subject, that makes it REALLY good writing.
I love how you continued your experiment in Point-of-Views. This sounds like it was told from the POV of the village gossip, and that’s perfect after seeing it from “the gods’ ” perspective. Thank you for the sequel. :D
I think it’s cool, but things like this ALWAYS need a sequel. And, in my experience, only godlike beings speak in this tense. Very good though. :D And an interesting idea, especially because how he feels about painting is how I feel, usually, about writing and academics in general.
First, I think it was a while back in the Simon & Blake series that we had Lucifer previously, and all of them made Ficlet Nirvana? Well, this one did too.
Second, I based Luc, loosely, off of Stephen Lynch’s portrayal of him in his song “Beelz”
Third, I realized today why normal devil portrayals look like they do. They were actually portraying Pan. Lucifer/Satan should actually look like an angel, except maybe missing wings, after he fell. Though of course he can change shape.
This was great. :D I must inform you that the chasing the dragon thing nearly amused me, though. Especially since the first time I’d heard of it was on South Park, under the guise of “Heroin Hero” where the object of the game is to catch the dragon, but you can’t ever do it.
Also, just so everyone knows, a “Gaunt” is an abbreviation of “Hormagaunt”, it’s a sub-specie of Tyranid. Which, now that I actually see one, looks exactly like I imagined it did, the exception is the length of the claws, and that the picture appears to have no feet. http://kofler.dot.at/40k/tyranid.html < Use Ctrl+F to find “Hormagaunt”
I think this was a very good idea, but it needs some technical work? The change from past tense to present tense really threw me off in some sentences. I hate for that to be what I’m picky about, though, because I’ve been picked at about it all my life.
I’m liking this series, especially since something similar to this actually happens on some island somewhere. Google it, and I’m sure you can find a picture of a street running red/orange with crabs. Please go on!
What I saw: A monster pleading with a human attacker not to kill him because he’s actually a friend/relative/boyfriend of hers. I made it a Tyranid because that’s relevant to my own boyfriend, even though the picture really doesn’t look like my understanding of a Tyranid.
That makes my tongue want to jump out of my mouth and run off to join Riverdance. ...That probably makes no sense at all, but that’s how it feels. Highly amusing though, I just want to know why he needs money and a stack of steaks.
Huh, who, wha? I don’t know what’s going on, but so far I like it that way because it makes sense. His animal-ness is evident in the way this flows, it just goes and doesn’t explain anything an animal wouldn’t know. Very, very good.
Hey, why haven’t you continued this? Just curious, I remember seeing this when I was back a while ago, and I was captivated by it. I just thought you should know. :D
Do what? You’re stalking me and have a video tape of me eating a hot dog!? O_O Haha, that sounds like a GREAT idea for a story, you stalking me and all…
It might just be that when I set the table, I concentrate on placement of things, and things have to go exactly right. {Fork on the left, spoon & knife on the right, and I never know in what order…And I don’t understand WHY the fork is on the left.} Things like sex just go as they go though, unlike setting the table. I think that difference just bothers me…
I think it needs a bit more sex…Not sure exactly what’s missing, though… I just think it needs more words with naughty connotations than just very detailed description. Very enjoyable though. :D
