Funny and spooky all at once. Deja vu or no, I wouldn’t have gone into the dark after the ball on principle. Bad things live in the dark.

Very nice. Not as wacky as the prequel, but I like the mood. Also, “He hangs up the phone, so that he can hang on her words” is a nice turn of phrase.

I like this… I liked that you didn’t reveal the vampire’s gender until the sixth paragraph, nor the narrator’s at all. Lends some nice ambiguity that could be taken in a lot of different directions.
