Even though I was on vacation I remembered her birthday also. I think it is very possible that would be a favorite way for her to spend an afternoon. I especially like to imagine her being able to rise easily from the quilt, and to walk effortlessly to meet her guests. Great story!
Great story – I knew most of the answers but I won’t tell because I feel that would be cheating! One thing I didn’t know is that you are called “Lulu”!!! LOL And yes, you have mentioned that book on here before. In fact, I think it used to be mentioned in your profile but it isn’t there anymore. Was that on purpose? By the way, I read the story before I saw it was a challenge and I was kinda confused about the names etc. Everything seemed kinda familiar but not exactly right!!!

This is so interesting to read – I can imagine you and Jen sitting in front of your respective computers and rushing to write and be the first to publish each forthcoming sequel! Keep up the good work. It’s Great!
Ewwww – ketchup and egg AND toothless. I usually don’t give criticism but I have been reading a lot of comments that have been really picky lately and I can’t believe no one mentioned that she “bushed” her hair, that her glasses were on “her” front of her nose and that her dress was “rinding” up her thighs. Also the letters “where” still legible. All I can say is “Good job”. You had everyone so involved in the description that they failed to criticize! Great story though.
LOL Funny! This past weekend 7 of us took a motorcycle trip. We rode through a little town called “Booger Hollow”. Some people were taking a picture of their group in front of the sign and all were “picking”! I wanted a picture like that of our group but I could never get them to pose for it. I guess they are all “closet pickers!” LOL Great story – I love it!
Great story and I like the fact that it is coming from a child’s point of view. The narration and observations remind me of some children that I know. Children worry about some things that we would never imagine being worth worrying about. Very interesting! Good job!
Ha!!! Is that the way it goes ? I always thought it was like that but never could quite prove it! LOL It’s something about the sleeping gas in those recliner handles!!! Great job.
And again – a great ficlet! Sounds like someone has had some experience in “performing surgery” on computers! Are you sure that you are in the right profession? LOL
Great sequel. I’m enjoying eavsedropping on this guy’s mental anquish! I just hope that his physical experience lasts as long as the decision making did!!! LOL
LOL It’s nice to know that guys worry about such things and it’s not just us gals. Funny, listening in on the conversation in his head. Gemminx was right on and Kermitgorf’s comment made me laugh even harder. Great job! I’m off to read the sequel.
LOL – Sometimes you feel that there is no other way to get it through. Great idea BUT I hope that it never comes to this!!! I don’t know what I was expecting but I laughed out loud when she sponged up the knowledge. LOL
I agree! This is a beautiful story. I know what you mean – just rocking on the front porch is wonderful. But if I go out late at night, I think swinging on the front porch is even better! Beautiful memories in those swings and rockers!!!
Great job! I’ve always felt that books were treasures and I can’t stand when they are mistreated! I love this storyline but feel sorry for the books that are unchosen and left behind. Keep up the good work!
When I wrote it, I had in mind a married couple keeping the romance going. Unlike movies where what you see is what you get – in your “mind’s” theater, different readers imagine stories in various ways. That’s why books are always so much better than the movies to me!!! Thanks for the comments.
Woohoo – you used the suggested number of song titles and in a great storyline. I figured it out – nothing kinky about all those women he’s grabbing on to – they are his blockers for all the sharp shooters on the roofs! Great job.
I LOVE that Pictures of You song and I Love Rock ‘n Roll! And one more thing I just LOVE reading the answers to this challenge! Keep up the great work.
I’m singing too! But I thought “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go” was WHAM! I wish I had read these before I wrote mine but I was too excited when I saw the challenge and just had to jump in there. And I’m glad to see that I’m not the only one that used more than 4 song titles – great job!
Oops!!! I just noticed I had one too many song titles – actually two if you count the title to the story. That was so much fun but I really wanted to use more!!! FUN challenge.
ohhhhhhhh!!!! Great story! As the old saying goes: I wish I could be a fly on the wall and watch while you were writing this. You HAD to have been talking it out. It looks hard to write. Keep up the good work. I like it!!!
LOL I hope that while the chicken is being interviewed Ophelia will ask if the chicken or the egg came first. I really had never thought about what a complicated creature the chicken is!!! Good work.
I agree with Dragon – the chicken came first because on the fifth day GOD created every kind of bird. Isn’t the chicken a bird? Those cookies sure got you to thinking, huh? LOL Interesting ficlet!
NOW, it is getting sad! I’m sorry but I couldn’t help laughing when I read his letter. It wasn’t your writing it was just that it was so different to your usual stuff. BUT I think it is very interesting! AND nicely written! I give you ALL the stars!
Yea! I’ve been watching for something else from you. This is great and it’s all about one of your favorite things to do. I even learned a new word – I THINK!!! Keep it up.
I opened it just cuz it said “Don’t Read This” and that it was a test. Did I pass? I could see the first part of it anyway and I wondered what you were testing! LOL They say “Curiosity killed the cat!” Meow!!!
Sad but …. did I understand that this was a guy with a boyfriend? Doesn’t matter if you are young or old, when your mom dies it is hard to deal with. My mother died in 2006 and I still pick up the phone sometimes to call her. She was my friend and I miss her. Life goes on for “us” and we have lots of things to live for. I promise it will get easier! Keep writing!
I could have gone on and on but I ran out of characters. In fact, I had to delete some of my story to fit it in but I DID hit ficlet Nirvana yet again!!! Hope you enjoy it!
That’s exactly the way it works! The guilt feelings about moving on. But life goes on no matter what and there is nothing we can do about it but deal with it. Laughing one minute and crying the next! Great job!!!
Ohhhhh, where do you live? I don’t wanna be there on Thursday just before 6:00 LOL And that IS a pretty stupid pick-up line! But if it works, I guess it’s worth it! LOL
LOL I knew it was gonna be something like that! But just think about it, wouldn’t you be vicious too if you were a “weiner” dog? I mean, look at how much effort it takes to get your whole body in the same area. Not to mention, getting it all around corners!!! AND what if you get high-centered? Be Aware! and Keep writing! Good Job!!!
LOL I understood it all perfectly well. They were brothers but I understood that “he” was Brandon because that is who you were talking about! I guess you could have used the “scientific” name for the “monster flower thing” so people who hadn’t read the prequel would know what it was, but not so sure that would have cleared anything up! LOL Most of the time, you guys write totally over my head anyway! But I love to read them. Good job! I can’t wait to see what they get into next.
Cool anagram! Kinda scary, kinda funny and a fun twist at the end…...but is it the end? Maybe you should DOWINE before you DIENOW! There might be some more messages in that alphabet soup. Great Job!
I really like this story. The grandma knows that her end of this life is coming so she is passing the pearls (pieces of her life) down to the beloved granddaughter. So sweet and real!
LOL That’s great! When I first starting reading I thought you were writing about the galactical stars and then all of a sudden I figured it out. I agree – the stars need to make an appearance. The stars give us a nudge to write more. Soooooo, I give you ummmmmmm 5 stars. Keep up the good work!
Ohhhh such a sad story and unfortunately, that happens waaaaayy too often. I like the way you told it from the child’s view. I hope that this storyline continues. I can see several directions that it could take. It will be interesting to watch. Great job!
Great story! Makes us think of all the little “nothing” things that we complain about. Kinda like: Thank God for dirty dishes- it means that we had something to eat! Again, Great story!!!
Have you been reading Inkheart again??? This story reminds me of the way I feel right now while I have been trying to read Inkspell for how long now? LOL
Very good! I was glad to see that the young man knew where to go for help. God is always there when we need him and He does work in “mysterious” ways! Great job.
Great story line. We should really be proud of and grateful to those who have been there and gone through so much for our freedoms AND for the ones that still are. Really makes you think about what we take for granted! So let;s “Thanks” to all the veterans and the active servicemen. Also, “Thanks” to all the families for their sacrifices.
This article brought tears to my eyes but I’m guessing it is because I was so close to the Grandmother that you were writing about. I’m sure there were lots of people that learned more about her from the writings that she left behind than they ever imagined was there before. She really went through some hard times in her life but I’m glad that you saw how strong and faithful that she was. Great tribute! Thanks.
Sorry, my story had too many characters and I had to cut some and rewrite a little and in the process I deleted an “e” out of WE!!! Hope you enjoy it anyway.
Great Sequel! Thanks for picking up the greeter title. I thought that was the route you were taking from the beginning. Sorry, I’m new at this and posted this comment on the wrong story. Anyway-——party on!!!
I do believe that you are right about the name “Jennifer”. I have said it myself many times. Especially when talking with other mothers who have “Jennifers”, and I would comment “It must be something to do with the name!” Anyway, I wonder if you would have the same personality if you had been named Melanie? It just seems to me that people grow to suit their names most of the time. Great analogy!
I’m a wife, mom and grandmother. I’m more of a reader than a writer. I’m the mom of Jenunique and the grandmother of Jenson. I also have been blessed with a son and 3 other grandsons. Jenson is the only one that has shown an interest in writing so far and I am excited to read his stories (along with his mom’s.) They amaze me! The other grandsons all possess special talents of their own! My mother was a writer. I wish she could have been involved with ficlets on this website in her lifetime. She would have truly enjoyed it. She was always thrilled to read stories written by members of her family. She kept waiting for her granddaughter (Jenunique) to finish that book that she has started. Maybe someday! I am having a great time reading the ficlets that all of you are writing. Once in a while I might try my hand at writing one, but mostly I will just be reading. So keep up the good work!!!
