I don’t really know the order the ring fortresses were built, but I do have them named correctly. And I have no idea where the King would have his Palace, nor how many days it would take to get there. But it sounds good!
Hey if you go back and put two of the copies into “draft” they will disappear! Also, before hitting the “publish” button two more times, when the server is slow, try hitting refresh a few times instead to see if your story was published, this works for comments too! I sometimes use two windows to check!
great advice! Is meagan real? Just curious. Yeah, it’s embarrassing to act like a kid when you’re obviously an adult. (I bet I could get away with it for few more years, since I’m so short! LOL!)
Great job! You stuck with the story line and characters. And it was gruesome. I don’t think Grace wants his job now, but I’m not sure about her desire for death..
crazy? I’d go after that doctor and beat him with my IV pole as soon as the epidural wore off and I could feel my legs! No smoking around my baby! You’re still nuts, man!
Is there only one moment? Oh my! I hope it didn’t pass me by unnoticed! I love the don’t be afraid section and “you’ll get dirty”. People are nice, under the dirt. :)
Mwa-ha-ha! I’m on to you, Man! Of course it wasn’t finished, the tax collector was building it, “carting dirt up to a height of 16 feet” remember? okay, so for one really weird moment we are on the same brain wavelength. Yikes! Go ahead and sequel!
Great imagery! I love how it’s like you’re in a bubble when driving in the fog! I like the little fantasy play in the middle of the ficlet. It gives so much to the description of the solitude and heaviness of the fog. ”..gently gripping the trees’ branches with silky fingers.” is my favorite line!
I knew it would get odd! I love the sounds of the air lock and door opening, heh. And I would never rush into an abandoned ship, so I think Jim is a moron for doing it! LOL
Sudden stop at the end! I read the trilogy, I liked the first one best, with its vivid descriptions. I hate the evil robot, (its a good villain), but love how you started each of the previous two ficlets with the line about memory. Great hook!
awesome! I love the discovering history feel, like something stashed in grandma’s attic. And you sunk New York? Well, I guess it was bound to happen. At least there’s world peace. :)
okay I can read it now! What a goofy glitch! Anyway, Really nice action, good pace, and metaphors! I think it would read better if you changed “but” to “because” in the line “But hate made the fire.” Sorry to make you edit again!
I think maybe the background, explaining X10 and how the bears came to rule the apes, should be a sequel or prequel, to give us more detail. Throwing it in to an already well defined ficlet was confusing. But I love the idea and the picture! I think you could run with it for a few ficlets, and you should!
Aaron must have crossed the witch’s path, seems he’s getting the brunt of it, what with the bubble gum pee. :) I hope Collin can straighten things out.
Love the snippy dialog towards the overprotective male. And fabulous imagery! The lone house reminds me of a puzzle I have, so you know it is picturesque!
snap out of it! Life is hard, teenagers are mean, it’s a cruel world, but we just find something nice and hang on to that. Ride the waves and get to shore.
well, that shadow has something important up its “sleeve”. (this is very different from the Death pieces you have been working on) Great sequel! I hope this keeps going!
best line “I took my earbuds out, allowing her words to fill me up.” I enjoy reading this tale of friendship, and I hope it happens to many other writers! :)
I didn’t get it until you said serial killer, then it made sense. This serial killer seems lucid, and intelligent, not as unstable as I imagine one to be. Yet I’m sure this is not the case for all. :)
I love the build up to the last paragraph, by telling us the history of suicide attempts and the unsure cause of the mood. And then the cell phone search, hoping for the call of all calls. :)
I sort of got a geeks out to get revenge on hookers they thought they loved vibe from this one. maybe she (the target) was his girl as part of a sorority dare?? I guess because he’s puncturing her tires, which seems kind of geeky. Loved the use of italics as The Voice. I think The Voice is the real villain here, shown in the control of the weaker human male character.
some people are already afraid of clowns, now you’re taking this to a new level! Great detail that he watches the couple every night, kind of a stalker vibe that adds to the villainy.
The last chapter in the life of the forest, as well as in her runaway life. I hope she is ready to move on! This was nicely written! I really felt the change in the forest with the “unhealthy” trees, and the litter. It parallels nicely with the change in her, growing up.
what would be horrifying?! I’m reading on, great cliffhanger! And I think you have some experience in the whole caressing bit, huh? Knowing not to touch her rear? :)
I was waiting for you to write, and I decided to go ahead and try my hand, I didn’t even think about as “switching roles” but I think that’s how we grow as writers, so I didn’t mind!
No matter who sequels, you sequel back keeping control of your original character’s attitude and balance with beautiful prose and great details! As always, I’m impressed!
This is fabulous! A series I’m definitely following! I love that he slides up the banister. Perfect detail that cats can sense him, and I love his nonchalant ways. I love the image of the girl untangling herself from her “mortal coil”. I just love it!
I can hear this droll, bored tone in my head as he gets ready for the pick-up downtown. I’ve seen the movies based on the Disc World series and the TV show Dead Like Me and picture Jeff sort of as a cross between the two.
still purple? is the same one, cuz I thought maybe there were a rack of umbrellas in Auto Zone. But I guess he could carry it around subconciously. SInce he fights subconciously.
ha ha ALRO And thanks for the vote of awesomeness Trafal! And I am appalled at the outcome, just like my character, I mean no wonder I was so adamant about going rogue! Life by combining people for an old fashioned cock-fight! Hilarious!
oh no! Fooled by the old “bring the dragon’s favorite food” trick and wisely coupled with the knowledge that Kira is inexperienced and chivalrous! That Perceval!
what a compliment! I feel great! And not just because you said that, but because I’m having fun writing, and I too know that at least somebody is reading it! :)
interesting, a mysterious prophesy again, that says what? Anyway, I guess Marduke would shed rapidly due to the rapid growth… And I was drafting a sequel with the tax collector being messenger, blah, blah, so I guess that it is moot now and he can just join the fight!
okay, I’m getting off at the next stop if he doesn’t! What exactly is he smelling, I wonder? LOL! What a weirdo! Thanks for entering, and I agree with ALRO, the line about the obliviousness being an acquired skill is the best because it’s true!
The goofy old woman was great! Her seemingly prophetic ramblings were ominous and proved to be deadly. It was shocking, but silly in a way. Unreal, like a dream. Thanks for entering!
LOL Great series! I loved each one, they made a wonderfully insightful tale. I love how all of the senses are picked up by his nose, and I just knew the widow would be “the one”. :) Thanks for entering!
okay, so the tax collector, whose home was destroyed by dragon, is going to take money to the rebellious people, to stop them from killing the king’s soldiers. Hm, is the tax collector, who was imprisoned by the king, going to do his bidding?
okay, so the tax collector, whose home was destroyed by dragon, is going to take money to the rebellious people, to stop them from killing the king’s soldiers. Hm, is the tax collector, who was imprisoned by the king, going to do his bidding?
Great battle within himself! I think you’ve depicted it very well, using different personality types as voices of his torment. Now I want to know what happened! And there HAS to be a fight between the voices in his mind! :)
ok, he has to wake, his bro’s got his girl! And that aunt sounds smothering! I like the details being thrown in, the reader is a fly on the wall, discovering the setting as the protagonist does. :)
you made this very personable, and yet it is still evil, the way he leeches and latches on. It makes me curious about the girl, what is in her mind, if she can see him for what he is, and if she can resist, or defeat him.
very melancholy. I liked everything but the wrists bleeding part, because that just scares me, as much as anorexia or bulimia, because that much pain and depression is almost unfathomable.
heh. very punny! (Grammar Note: take out the apostrophe’s in the “it’s” in the second paragraph, and maybe substitute one “quickly”) I really love the teenager’s response to the dog pound, and the little family moment at the end! Great story!
I had to end this, it was bugging me! I’m not sure how I feel about this whole thing, I think Io started it with the idea of making it much more shocking, and so I think it ended lamely. :)
umm, you’ve again thrown in some new details for me to wrap my brain around! I think however, I am going to skip back to the farm and let you expound on this Dane.
off-beat heart…off beat…arrhythmatic? erratic heart beat? Just thought the last line read funny, but I loved the sense of dread as summer draws to a close, and maybe losing time with a special someone. :)
I picture a Forrest saying “And that’s all I have to say about that.” at the end there. :) Great picture, Great story! Wondering what kind of work she did? Hm.
I have a tendency to think of characters as the same gender as the author too! But I totally meant for the dragon to be found and hatched by a male. :)
( what’s liefer? maybe sooner, rather? oh, an wroth, did you man wrath?) Yes, Sir Byron, let them know what they are up against, that you don’t intend to hurt them, but will! Love this series! But you knew that already! :)
I love the line “I’ve found an attention span” because ever since college, I’ve felt like I’ve acquired Adult Onset ADD! It’s great to take time and relax! maybe that’s why I love the country.
so is this supposed to be the same boy out looking for food for the dragon? I assume the snake is dinner. Maybe now he is playing war, but in the future…..
A lot of surprises here. I never pictured the person as a worker in the old-folks home when I read this initially, what with the visit to the porch, (I pictured a house) and the suicide was a shock!
yeah, I’ve felt like this before. Like when I finished my series yesterday and wanted the whole world to read it, because it’s the first thing I’ve actually FINISHED ever, and then only two people did. And I’m grateful, but two isn’t near the whole world. I guess I should just be happy with what I did. Private party over here.
It could be your Firefox homepage…. tempting, isn’t it? I had it as my homepage once, but I needed to regain control, so I banished it to the Toolbar. :)
I tried illustrating a comic, but the only thing I can draw consistently is fish… LOL Actually I have tried to create odd creatures for a story, but I have to work just as hard at drawing as I do writing. I find it’s sometimes double the work, but good for writer’s block!
this needs a prequel! The reasons he is worried are not clear! And how fortunate to have found an abandoned cottage, though those usually spell horror!
slobbering is still gross, and not giving the human the mental capacity we so proudly would cling to, even if robots took over the world and adopted us as pets. :) Love the twist, it was jaw-dropping!
