This made me think of the Matrix having to be rebuilt because humans couldn’t cope with a perfect world. Only, this was less dire. I enjoyed it, nice work.

I was confused by that line as well. Still though, I think the idea of a star getting wrong numbers is a pretty funny mental picture.

There’s some great imagery here, and it would be a real good starting point for a prequel or sequel. Will have to ponder and see if I can think of something interesting to follow it up with.

I had a friend in high school who carried around a pack of smokes just to give them to other people. At least, that’s what he said for a long time. He eventually picked up the habit himself, naturally.

    Nice moment here.

Here’s the part where I demonstrate a lack of geek cred: I had to look up what steampunk is.

Now that I know what it is, this is pretty awesome.

I’ll be looking for an excuse to drop the phrase “hacking flam fire” into casual conversation. Nice.

I was able to follow it okay on my second read after I read the Wikipedia entry about Corrigan you linked to on your blog, but it was a little confusing the first time.

Thanks for the comment Will. Yeah, I read that now and I can see how that wouldn’t make sense. I think I cut a sentence to get the length in check.

Nice. I like how the ending is in the middle.

    Great first effort!

Now that I’ve read it, this seems like the most logical explanation for Will’s story. Yet it never would have occurred to me. Great work.

I also enjoyed the surprise ending. There are a lot of different directions a prequel could go. About to go read what Wil Wheaton wrote.

I really enjoyed how this was almost entirely driven by dialog. Nice work.
