Great imagery. Love the description of the chair.

As a series written in the 1st person, you’ll know the reasons behind the fog and rain when he knows. As for the wife, Catherine, and their son, Daniel, a little more can be learned from the first two in the series

Thank you. This is actually part 3 of a series that I stupidly forgot to write as sequels of each other. The first two parts can be found by searching for madmandiary.

I’ve actually been writing each entry out in long hand using a fountain pen on cotton rag paper…then transferring to ficlets.

Nice job. This was the first avenue I was going to take. Then I came up with 2 more possible sequels. I was letting them stew a bit before writing. Go ahead and continue this Nightengale (you certainly don’t need my permission.) I’ll add another sequel to the previous ficlet – just to see what it stirs up.

Where, o’ where should we go from here? Is Geran on a mission to destroy the spirit? Is he looking for glory? Is he looking for help? Why would he venture to such a place?

Let’s see what we can do…

I like the peek inside the mind

  7. On Challenge: A Picture is Worth a Thousand Characters...:

    posted 8 months ago

I didn’t know how to sequel this and use the picture. Oh well…I guess people will figure it out.

Is pouring a cup of coffee mundane enough?

  9. On Reason to Care, Reason to Feel:

    Elegant wording throughout.

A couple avenues for a sequel. Does he combine his rage and depression into hatred of life (become a maniacal killer) or combine them into hatred of death (become a real-life hero)? Does his depression make him suicidal (tragic hero or psycho killer) or a fanatic about preserving live (just his own or others)?

Hmmm…I’ll have to stir the pot and see what comes out.

So many places to take this…where should I begin?

uuhh…..uummm…different. But good! I like it.

    Very nice.

  14. On In the Shadow:

I like how you put in the “seen but not heard” theme but remind us that sometimes the people we pretend not to see, see things we don’t.

  15. On The Chase Begins, pt 2:

Apology not accepted. You’re supposed to sequel/prequel other ficlets!! :-)
    And yours does fit nicely.

The clover is random…but so were the objects of the challenge.

All the cavities in my teeth remind me that I should have bought more mozzarella than candy as a kid. Excellent twist on childhood.

  22. On Food for thought:

    posted 12 months ago

Yeah, it does seem out of place now that I’ve walked away from it for a while. I had the whole thing in my mind and ran out of characters…would have been better off leaving that paragraph out. Thanks.

  23. On Closing Time (Challenge: Mundane Object):

    posted 12 months ago

Absolutely superb! What’s so excellent is what isn’t said. Everyone knows what the bar looks like, the smell, what both were wearing, etc. I can see it in my mind as if I were there witnessing it.

  24. On {Challenge: Mundane Object} Let the Currency Fly:

HA! Love the last paragraph. The incredulous feeling we get toward every day objects when used in a manner we don’t expect is great.

  25. On The Visit {mundane object challenge :The Quarter}:

How magical was it as a kid to get a coin or two from a grandparent. Very nice story.

It was kind of a mangling of a slice-of-life story idea I’ve been trying to develop and the wheresgeorge.com web site.

  27. On The Legend of Batak Beatrix:

Womderful! I’d better find another place to hide the skeletons in my closet.

  28. On Death is always an option:

I’ve actually never seen any of the Saw movies. Personally, I’d rather read a book than watch the formula-based movies Crappywood spits out these days.

Loved it. Had to write a sequel but don’t think I fully captured Don Rialdo’s personality.
