The song used is actually a poem by William Butler Yeats. It’s called ‘Stolen Child’, and put to music by Loreena Mckennitt. . Now, about this relating to real life…well, yes, someone in my family had been in a car accident. She survived, but we still feel its effects every day. . Thanks for reading! : )
And because it wouldn’t fit in the ficlet, the character that is based off me in my series is Anastasia, the little girl who nearly drives Blaire crazy by making her think she didn’t survive the crash to the island. Yep. That’s how I was when I was small. XD . “You’d drive a saint up the wall!” courtesy of parents. : ) . Thanks to all for entering! :D . NightMaiden
I know that feeling really well. I look back at all the cartoons that I used to watch, and now I can see how easily I could understand them. I think that we all have moments like this. My sister and I still adore Scooby-Doo. : ) Thank you for entering, and sorry for taking so long to actually comment. DX
Whoa…I certainly wasn’t expecting this. And I mean that in the best way possible – I love the creativity of the idea of doors, and the way you use second person. The doors will keep on opening, but it’s our duty to be strong for what’s hiding behind them. Great entry, and thanks for entering. : )
Words are the easiest things to bend, and it gets confusing most of the time. There might be another reason, but I actually doubt it. The story’s really realistic – it makes me really sad that there are people who treat others like this just because of that one difference that they have. The only thing I have to suggest is that you put spaces between your paragraphs. Again, great last line. Other than that, the writing’s great! : )
Gosh, rumors can be so over-puffed-up that sometimes I just block out what everyone’s saying. Most of the time they’re ridiculous, and I should know a thing or two about rumors, the way my old school used to be. >_> The teachers never figure out anything, unless they’re keeping a close eye on the students…let’s see where this goes.
That’s the bad thing about having your father as the teacher; but obviously, those kids really aren’t friends. Real friends stick with you through thick and thin. Off to the sequel…
One thing…um…in this ficlet, the mother didn’t kill her children. Just thought I’d clear that up…oh, and the sequel doesn’t have anything to do with this. XD It was just inspired by the challenge, so I stuck it in there. : )
That’s a wonderful start! It gave me such a great idea. I echo X-Ninja! Could I sequel? It’s got great potential, and the ending line just gave me chills that you usually get watching a good movie. XD
Yeah, the car falling out of the sky, as crazy as it may seem, is completely fine if you’re in the middle of a tornado/hurricane. It actually rained frogs on London once. o.O Enough of that, but great continuation! I had a different idea of what would happen, though. Awesome ficlet. : )
gasp * Sorry! I was thinking about tennis! I’ve played badminton before – I was a little out of sorts today, so I guess it was wrong…I wonder what made me write about tennis. I’ll take those out…sorry! O_O
Whoop, slip up! Oh well, language mistakes can happen to anyone. When I was first learning Spanish I thought that ‘perro’ was a dish, and not a dog. :/ . I actually said ‘I haven’t tried it’, when someone asked me what it was. XD
And, Alex is the good guy we all know him to be. * sigh * I hope this cleared up Chloe’s head. I wonder where you guys are going to go with this! Great job so far. : )
I KNEW Jay was no good! In the immortal words of Blusparrow : “stupid football player.” And that’s just what he is. Chloe has been an idiot. Let’s see if Alex forgives…knowing him, he’s going to be nice. Onto the sequel!
Boy, I can connect with this ficlet – especially the grass cutting part. That’s a wonderful memory; my mom always opens up the house in summer, and it’s something I always remember. Cut grass is one of my favorite scents. I think you captured the nostalgia really well here. As a matter of fact, I can hear someone mowing the lawn right now. XD Thanks for entering! : )
Isn’t Tony Spanish? If you wanted to say beautiful, you could say ‘bonita’. But I may have just mixed up his nationalities, because I used ‘niƱa’ in the other ficlet. Anyways, sequel is coming your way.
Food has got good memories, too! I have lots of pleasant memories linked to things like pancakes and simple pieces of bread. Taste and sound are two of the things that are most active in your brain, which is why our memories of food are vivid. Well written. Thanks for entering! : )
That’s a lovely picture you’ve put in my mind. I wasn’t alive when the ice cream trucks came around, but I think having that kind of a memory would be something really nice to remember. Great job, and thanks for entering. : )
War can tear nations, people, friendships apart and take lives – the repercussions are scary to think about. Eutopia never lasts, but humans could make the period in which is reigns longer…but then again, we’re human, aren’t we? ‘Malice aforethought’ as my mother likes to say. I think you did a great job contrasting the memories with war. Thanks for entering! : )
The start to an adventure, no doubt. Sleeping on planes gives almost anyone a crick in the neck. XD Who is she staying with? Ah, well, I guess that’ll be answered. : )
It sure is nostalgia. One of my family members still has an old radio, and we listen to it for short periods of time – sometimes it’s nicer to hear than to see. Thanks for entering! : )
Sure is good times! : ) TV shows can hold a lot of significance. Three in the morning – dedicated fan. It’s lovely how something can bring back fond memories. Thanks for entering!
Father Liam doesn’t exactly help. I loved the opening lines. Someone as perfect as that would get on anyone’s nerves, I imagine. I liked Adele’s attitude a lot. Death doesn’t choose, unfortunately. Great job. : )
Not confusing at all. Mom seems a bit pushy, but then again, we haven’t seen much of her. I wonder what Grace is going to do now. Spencer’s cool, for the record. : )
Poor thing – I can see she probably hasn’t had a history of violence if she’s getting all nervous because she elbowed a jerk. He deserved it, so she can rest her mind at ease. Great job so far. : )
And the challenge is on! Let’s see what Chloe’s got. XD She should be thinking more about Alex. She hurt him really badly. Jay seems to be the kind of person you’d be wary about…he’s got something up his sleeve, I think.
This series is quite unique – in the dialogue style. It needs a few commas here and there, but other than that I’m enjoying the interaction between the characters. I like Mike’s personality more, but I prefer the name Kahn over Mike. Onto the sequel! : )
Whoo! And the match begins! Now, let’s get into ‘Xiaoli thinking cap’. I loved the ‘Christmas morning excitement’ part. Cricket’s having too much fun with this to get away unscathed later. XD
Yay for convenient aunts! XD Spending more time together would surely make them happier. Yes, and the fact that summer ends is really stupid. =.= Keep up the great work! : )
@ OrangeOreos : The horses aren’t the only ones judged; the way you present yourself, your salutes, your tack – many other things are judged about the human rider. The way horses get signals from their riders is also observed; if the transition from move to move is smooth, or if there is any friction between horse and rider.
Ouch! I’ve had my ankle broken, and I can tell you its no easy feat to run, much less walk with it. XD But I loved the fact that his determination made him keep going. I agree with Living in Wonder Land; the drive of the athlete was well described. Great job! : )
That’d be a sight to see at the Olympics. It’s one way of going down in Olympic History. XD “Someone, call security!” I loved that part. Great job. : )
That’s a nice inspiration! I was actually thinking about writing something about the Olympics, with them ending and all, but then I found this. You have your third entry. : ) Congrats on 100 Ficlets!
I love this series so far! I like the way Grace has the power to leave him gobstopped. XD One thing, though – shouldn’t ‘write’ be ‘right’? Keep up the great work, you guys!
I agree with THX and OrangeOreos. A teasing muse might sometimes give you better ideas than a flat out one – haven’t you had those moments where something’s at the tip of your fingers and you don’t know what it is? Great entry. Thanks for entering! : )
Ooh! I really do love this series! I hope it’s continued. I agree with Ana Cristina. Sounds like he has something he doesn’t want to talk about, even though he’s the helpful friend. Keep up the awesome work! : )
I think that this is great…we should really think about what repercussions come from what we do. Thankfully, some people are waking up and smelling the fossil fuels. Great entry, 5 stars.
I agree with Elsha. Pretty clean cut story – concise and in tune with the beginning. War does that to many people…in class, we learned about the Vietnam Syndrome…needless to say I was in a morose mood for days after. Thanks for entering! : )
Well, that’s certainly a shocker. After what…ten years, she just decides to contact him? And she’s in a fix…sounds interesting. I’d be happy and angry if that happened to me. But maybe she has a good reason for it. Nice series! : )
Sometimes being alone is the most beneficial thing for yourself. No company can be strangely relieving. I think that was nicely pictured in the ficlet. Good job. : )
I couldn’t help myself! XD I entered, and hoped it’s okay. I think I’ve watched too much CSI for my own good. o_O I love Sherlock Holmes. Great challenge! : )
That was truly original! I was wondering at first – why are they capitalized, but I eventually caught on. XD I echo Saint Chuck about the sitting down part. Thanks for entering! : )
Ooh…feeling the deep hatred right now…not for you, for Eve. I can’t see how anyone could be any more heartless – congratulations, you made me hate a fictional character. XD Great entry, though. : )
And, Starbucks, yet again, serves as a haven from the hustle and bustle of daily life, that comes along with holidays and of course – shopping! A gift shop inside Starbucks actually doesn’t sound half bad. : )
A well known situation…I’m glad there was at least a small piece of light – if that’s what it was. The populars are usually airheads that are way too puffed up for themselves… * sigh * The last paragraph caught me off guard. I wonder what’ll happen next.
Sounds like something I’d say when I was angry – lots of people have feelings like these everyday, and I like seeing it on paper. Er, screen. XD I like how several subjects are touched on. Nice job! : )
Whoa. The title certainly does this little piece justice. A crazy fact – most sociopaths will look normal on the outside. That’s what makes killers creepy. Great ficlet!
I agree with chakatreamentson! That’d be a huge appetite killer. I’m glad she got her appetite and hunger back, though. Motorcycles always make my day (if it’s someone sane riding them), as do good friends. Thanks for entering! : )
A normal interaction with a reaction that you’d get from any caring mother. Hopefully Kirsten will pull herself together – Oliver didn’t sound so hotshot anyway. XD Good job. : )
Creepy stuff – in the good way, though. I can’t imagine what it’d be like to have a job like that. I especially liked the beginning, and the description about the dust. An abandoned town can be scarier than any multi – tentacled monster, in many ways. For one, the silence, like you mentioned. I gotta quit rambling. Great job anyways. : )
Great little ficlet! Just the dialogue is going to make me check out the prequels. You can really find comfort in someone you’ve never met before, because they have an unbiased view of what’s going on…and, I’ll stop rambling now and click on the prequel. XD
I just read the prequels, and I like the impending feeling of danger you’ve both captured. Thankfully, she awoke in her bed before anything could happen. And hopefully, her day will get better from here on in. Great job! : )
That’s just lovely. Happiness can give people a certain glow – it’s really a wonderful thing, and I think you captured it well in words. Great job. : )
XD I loved the ‘Christmas Ghost’ line. This series is quite lovely, in its own way, of course. One way of answering our questions is through writing. : )
This sounds likes something that would go through my head. XD I like how you referred to New Orleans, and how you ended it again on how someone would view it. Thanks for entering! : )
And Jen brings up another lovely subject! XD Loved the last line. I’m glad Heather moved away. She sounded like the stereotypical ‘popular wannabe’. * sigh * Thanks for entering! It was fun reading this. : )
Oh, man, have I been in the main character’s shoes! I can relate to this very well, and Heather doesn’t sound like such a pleasant person to me now. I wonder where she’s disappeared to.
At some point in time, all writers go through a block like this. One thing doesn’t seem too good, the other seems even worse than what you previously wrote…I think you captured the moment in a lovely manner. Thanks for entering! : )
I entered! Great idea, although it was a little hard for my brain to actually make mistakes. XD Hopefully my entry will actually conform to this, lol. : )
gulp * Seems like a scary guy that you wouldn’t want to run into on a rainy night. I could never understand all the psychos who want world-domination, either. I’d rather just sit at home and write. XD Great entry. : )
Lovely descriptions throughout; your own reflection can be something scary at times. And, sitting in the rain is strangely refreshing. You brought good memories to my mind. Nice little ficlet. : )
I admire the people who have to deal with madmen like this every day. As I was reading this entry, I was thinking of a particular CSI episode…gave me the goosebumps. Thank you for entering! : )
Wow…I wouldn’t like to be him, that’s for sure. They say you can survive for a few days, at the most. Great entry, though, I enjoyed reading it a lot. Thanks for entering! : )
Awesome beginning. “And lady”. XD That was priceless. Yes, here on Ficlets we seem to discharge ideas at the rate of a pitting machine. Lovely entry. 5 stars. : )
What a lovely idea. Air dipped in gold. I wouldn’t want to be a human being if I were a genie, either. Must be lousy to be “born” ninety two, eh? XD The last line is just making me anticipate what’s going to happen. : )
Still very sad, and vague—still some questions, but I have a feeling they’re going to be answered. I wonder what’s going to happen to this tragic couple.
I can perfectly imagine this going on. It goes on inside my house, but only with the roommate replaced with a mother. A very cranky mother…moving on, I think this is a very nice Ficlet, because it doesn’t have a whole load of description, which is rare for you, if I may say so. The conversation is just enough to depict what’s going on. Thanks for entering! : )
Good thing it’s day right here! Seriously, the ending made me gasp. It reminded me of ‘War of the Worlds’, how the aliens got down to Earth with lightning - you might not have put a creature like that in your story - this is just my overactive imagination talking. Great entry, overall. Thanks for entering! : )
A very dedicated anime fan! O_O Great entry nonetheless, and I like how the he tells him that he stood by and watched when the characters died and Invader Zim was put off the air. I enjoyed reading it, and thanks for entering. : )
Really, truly refreshing and awesome! I can’t stand bad grammar—if I could, I’d correct all the ‘n00bs’ out there. XD Great idea, and I laughed during reading. Yes, YouTube is one of the haunts of the infamous grammar abusers. A very funny entry. Thank you very much for entering! : )
I really enjoyed reading this—I liked how Thelma counters everything that her husband says. It made me laugh. But the ending certainly caught me off guard! : )
XD I enjoyed reading this! Inspiration can come from the weirdest places and situations. A particular Ficlet that I wrote got its idea from hearing my cat clattering up in the roof. >_< Thanks for entering. : )
gasps * Fired? He can’t fire Death! What happens if the planet is overpopulated?! Well, then again, didn’t Jeff want a vacation? And if he’s really fired, then he can finally stop worrying about freeing souls. Great ficlet, I really enjoyed the ‘rose slip’ part. Keep up the good work! : )
Oh, no! It’s probably because he chose feelings over duty, right? That’s the problem with Death—if there is someone like this, they should be emotionless for their job. A very nice ficlet, with a darker twist at the end. Keep up the great work!
Yay! Ha, yes, they wouldn’t be separated too long! Very enjoyable string of sequels that you’ve made. Definitely looking forward to the action to come. : )
This is a lovely series. I’ve really enjoyed it immensely so far, and as I said before, you guys have done a really good job. It is really sweet and heartwarming. Great job! : )
