Very nice. I like this better than your last travel-oriented ficlet. It has more definition, less equivocation. I wonder at this person’s “friends” though… what a bunch of jerks! They’re lucky it’s “just” fog and not some unseasonably horrible blizzard like what hit those poor hikers on Mount Rainier the other day. :(
Hmm. This is the kind of silly thing people love to do in horror movies. “No, I’ll be all right.” Then a shadow moves and everything is not all right. I’ve always liked the sound of, “No, I’ll be all right, but let me borrow your pistol.”
Heh. So much for the answers being numbers. Don’t you hate it when your magic toys suddenly stop following the rules told you by the nice Chinese gentleman who sold them to you? :)
I guess the title didn’t give enough of a hint, or not enough people read Roger Zelazny anymore. See his Amber Chronicles for information about the princes and princesses of Amber, who are eternally youthful and extraordinarily difficult to kill even when you’re trying very hard.
Quite enjoyable! I had a bit of trouble with the names because they’re so similar. Like JMSquire and THX 04777 I liked the tongue line, but I also laughed at, “Danny, she’s a cartoon.”
You’re right that it’s a bit ambiguous, but I didn’t want to use the word “window” again right before the end: I wanted people to remember it from the first line and the title. If you have a suggestion, I’m very happy to entertain it.
This is great! It gave me a really big smile. The description of the ground changing and the voices of hell burbling from his throat is extremely vivid.
Why keep her alive? Perhaps she’s the mad scientist behind the nanoswarm, or provided the theoretical knowledge to make it happen without knowing what the real mad scientists were up to.
I had a bit of trouble with “toxic tires” and had to reread it several times before I figured out what you meant. Might want to have a look at it.
Actually, I was about to say this one wasn’t up to Commander Aslög’s standards: it read more like background notes for yourself than a prequel. I wish you luck as you develop this scenario: I’ve very much enjoyed reading about the Corporation, Incorporated!
Damn it; I knew that name was familiar for a reason. I hate when I do that sort of thing unintentionally: it feels like stealing.
As for what office sluts dress like, I imagine them in black skirts that are long enough to look conservative, but topped with something shiny and clingy like satin or silk that not only displays curves but shows too much chest: either because it’s fastened with buttons (too small and too far apart) or because the neckline is a bit too “clever”.

I draw my inspiration from a lot of sources, not just other ficlets or Flickr images, but I don’t have a convenient field to talk about them so I’ll sometimes leave a comment on my own ficlets if I feel a need to explain.
My current goal is to write two ficlets a week with the idea in mind that eventually I’ll write a lot more. I welcome any and all constructive critiques.
