Hey folks, it might be a couple of days before the next installment of the Book Tour Diary, on account of my laptop deciding that Ann Arbor, Michigan would be a fine place for it to lay its burdens down and shuffle off this mortal coil. In other words, my hard drive horked up a hairball and my laptop is , , . (I’m writing this from my hotel’s business center, in case you’re wondering.)
This is highly annoying to me, but I’m actually oddly at peace about it. One of the things I did before I went on tour was to migrate all the really important documents/files on the laptop to a shared server on my network so that on the chance the computer, you know, choked, all I would be out was a four-year-old laptop. So despite being annoyed, I’m also just a little smug right the moment. If one’s laptop is going to die, this is pretty much the optimal way for it happen.
Well, except that part about me being on the road, which makes replacing it conveniently something of an issue. But I’ll worry about that a little later (say, later today, before my flight to Washington DC). In the meantime, just know that thanks to my suddenly lap – state, I may or may not be able to quickly update over the next few day. I’m optimistic I can replace the laptop – new ones aren’t exactly hard to find – but you never do know.
This is what being on tour is about, though – rolling with the events as they happen. Look, ma! I’m improvising!
