Hello From San Diego

In case any of you were wondering if I had been fired from the gig yesterday, the answer is: No, they’re contractually stuck with me. However, I was traveling, from Ohio to San Diego (which is a good direction to be traveling, since it’s 30 degrees warmer in the latter), and stupid me, I hadn’t bookmarked the secret administrative URL for Ficlets on my laptop, so I couldn’t sign in. Which is why I didn’t update. However, Kevin has now bailed me out and hooked me up (to mash metaphors), and here I am.

I’m in San Diego not to avoid Ohio cold (that’s just a side benefit) but to make an appearance at a local law school to talk about writing. What would I, who is not a lawyer, have to tell the law students? Actually quite a lot, since I’ll not be discussing legal writing directly, but things like publicizing yourself online, the advantages and disadvantages of blogging as a way to self promote, how to use connections one develops through writing, so on and so forth – basically, stuff that is useful to any bright young self-promoting person, including law students.

It’s a fun side gig to all the writing and such because it allows one to travel, especially to places where In-N-Out Double-Doubles, prepared animal style, are plentiful. Yes, for all of you from California, the first thing I did when I left the airport was go to In-N-Out and partake. This is what one does when one leaves the airport in California (and don’t think In-N-Out doesn’t know it: they have their shops sometimes within sight of an airport exit. Excellent).

Consider this a bit of a dry run for a couple weeks into the future, when I start my book tour, from which I will be blogging on the road, giving you tidbits and tales while I’m off promoting the hell out of my latest book. It should be fun, although I hope I don’t keep waking up at an ungodly early hour local time, which is what I did today. Having a body set to Eastern time is not always a good thing.

We head to In-n-out straight off the plane as well. Glad to see we aren’t the only ones ;-)

I think if you don’t head to In-N-Out when you get off the plane, and you were born in California, they actually go and tear up your birth certificate.
