Inspiration: Lost Words

Sometimes just the right word can inspire you toward writing – which is a good thing, considering what people do here at Ficlets. So, with that in mind, allow me to point you to this compendium of obsolete words: Words that, for whatever reason, have dropped out of common usage. Yes, hard as it is to believe that words like “fallaciloquence,” “oporopolist” and “senticous” aren’t on the lips and tongues of today’s kids, the fact is most of these words have been out of use for decades, if not centuries. You could be the one to bring them back. In ficlet form! And that’s the best form of all.

Enjoy!

Well, part of being a writer is to not write like you were writing with one hand and flipping pages of a thesaurus with the other. That’s just the way to be poor.

Admittedly, the words have to start being used so that it won’t seem like it was looked up in a thesaurus after frequent usage, but still, it would be best to focus on a few choice words and expand as you go for an online vocabulary-building coup on the general populace.
