I found out last night, and promised not to say anything until they published the list (it almost killed me, honest) but, ficlets is a finalist for two SxSW Web Awards!!! We’re up against some stiff competition in the Community and CSS categories, but I’m just geeked to be a finalist. They had more entries this year than ever, and while I don’t know who didn’t make it, considering who we’re up against just in the Community category, I’d say it’s a huge honor just to be on the list.
Which Goliaths are we up against? On the community side, it’s just a TV network founded by the former Vice President of the United States and a web browser. Not to mention a killer t-shirt site and a design portfolio site. In the CSS category, we’ve got it relatively easy (nope, we don’t). We’ve got a really cool Rails monitoring app (hey, maybe if we let them win, they’ll let us use it for free!), a gorgeous site for a hotel in Pennsylvania, a real estate site and a collection of hostels in the Netherlands. OK, none of them are run by a guy who used to be second fiddle for the most powerful guy in the world, but they are all very pretty to look at.
I’ve got to give a herculean pat on the back to Jason Garber who wrote 90-something percent of the CSS on the site, and the three designers who turned my silly idea into something beautiful: Ari Kushimoto, Cindy Li and Jenna Marino (she made the logo!!). Without the four of them, ficlets would still be a little demo on my laptop and not this.
I also owe you guys a new challenge post, but I’m on the road and tired. I’ll get it together and post it tomorrow evening.
