I figured it was about time to introduce you to the rest of team ficlets. A lot of people have put in a lot of hours to get ficlets where it is, and I wanted to take a minute and publicly thank them. We’re all floored by the response to the site. As John said earlier, we’re having a meeting today with the folks who happen to be in town to go over your feedback, the almost-400 blog posts about ficlets, the things we think are missing and things we think we need to add first. Of course, the first priority is to fix the outstanding bugs (and they are outstanding). But, we’ll talk about that later.
It’s time to talk about my people! The ficlets core team was very small, but we had a large “extended family” that I’ll talk about in another post. I don’t want to leave anyone out, but the folks who worked with me on the design and development of the site deserve a whole heap of lovin’ and deserve their own post. I’ll talk about the other folks involved in ficlets coming into existence later, I promise. Lots of people came in to advise, or near the end to provide copy and guidance. But, these four people were on board from very early on and provided the heart and soul of ficlets.
- Jason Garber – Front end wizardry. He made sure we had all the microformats we needed, and that the design was faithfully implemented. I was really lucky to get him to work on this with me.
- Ari Kushimoto – Ari gave us a ton of UI and helped us keep things simple. Any of the hard/awkward bits on the site are Jason’s fault (just kidding, they’re almost all me) doing dumb things at the last minute (like the buddy icon thing – all me). Ari’s got a great design sense, and is a blast to work with.
- Cindy Li – Cindy worked closely with Ari and provided a bunch of UI design as well. We didn’t get to use some of it because of time constraints, but she’s been involved since the very beginning and is the first person I “stole” to work on ficlets. She’s also the queen of promotion, and talked up a storm at SxSW, handing out buttons and stickers like crazy, and telling everyone how cool ficlets is.
- Jenna Marino – The visual look and the drop dead gorgeous logo are all Jenna’s doing. The first time I saw the logo, I was sitting in Logan Airport waiting for a flight. The terminal was full of people, and I just started tearing up. It was so much better than I’d hoped. The design is so pretty, I just want to lick it.
Everyone give them a big virtual hug. They turned my silly little idea into what you’ve got here. I’m honored to work with them, and so proud of what we’ve done together. Hopefully, we’ll be able to keep the “band” together for a long time. Next time, we’ll talk about some of the other folks who are helping out, especially the folks providing the editorial voice, content, and helping to develop the ficlets community.
Remember, we need your feedback!!
