Update Tomorrow

I managed to fix a handful of bugs today between having what feels like the flu and watching Willow. Jason and I will sync up in the morning, and then probably do an install before lunch.

Here’s what should be fixed when the install’s done:

  • The recently published list should look better
  • Drafts won’t show up in the inspiration, prequel or sequel lists
  • Mature stories are more clearly marked in lists
  • Some people who have numbers in their profile urls have reported that they can’t get to their profiles. Yeah, that’s not good… but I found the problem, and it’ll be fixed too.

Update: All done! If you notice any flakiness, please post feedback!

Drink lots of fluids. I suggest beginning with bourbon.

I assume that part of the change is that rating a story won’t make it pop up to the top again. While I can see how that might have been a problem, it was also a way to get more exposure for stories that would otherwise vanish off the page and never be seen again.

It’s very frustrating the way the system works now, that you can only see the most recent handful of ficlets (or the most popular or active, whatever those mean) and there’s no way to see older ones. That means I could write a story that nobody will ever see if a few prolific ficleteers suddenly kick in right after me.

Can’t you please do something about this? The problem will only get worse as more people start ficleting.

RM, we’re working on this one, but we’re definitely open to suggestions. We honestly didn’t think we have this kind of volume so soon.

Immediate suggestion: add a link at the bottom of each column that says “More”, and clicking on it brings you to a list of the 20, 30, 50, however-many most recent (or popular or active) stories. Perhaps you could use a similar format to the one you use on the author list, where you show the title, the star rating, keywords (perhaps), and the first line or two from each one. That would also make the ratings useful for something, since as it is right now you generally can’t see what something is rated until you’ve already clicked on it.

Oh, and at the bottom of that list is another “more” link which takes you to the next 20, 30, 50 or however-many down the list.
