Comments on 'A night at home (vamp. challenge)'

"The sweetness was turned to adamantine, heartless cruelty, and the purity to voluptuous wantonness."
Kristine shivered as the movie came to a climax, clutching her bugle bag tightly to her heaving chest.

The house was empty: parents out on a dinner date, brother at a friend's for the night. It was just her, Dracula, a dark comforter enveloping her rigid body, and her bag of junk food. *Crunch* ohh, bugles were good.

Another bag of bugles later...
"My revenge has just begun! I spread it over centuries and time is on my side."
By now, the only reason Kristine was still eating was to give her mouth something to do other than squealing every few minutes.

The moon rose steadily in the sky and, her parents still weren't home. Shadows played along the bare living room walls as Dracula ended, "Bugle fat be gone!" she chanted while marching upstairs. On her way up she glanced her parent's car parked in the driveway, with three figures inside. Two stayed inert, and 1 looked up at her. Shadows tattooing his red eyes

I don’t know why I thought that was so important to know which Dracula movie, other than I think it gives some insight into what kind of person the character is: if it’s a teenage girl at home watching the 1930’s Dracula, I would think she’s a movie buff. If it’s the 70’s version with the ever-so-dreamy Frank Langella, she’s a romantic. If it’s the made-for-TV with Jack Palance, she’s just weird.
: )
Good job, by the way.

I thought it was great. I was going to go with 5 stars just for the cute picture of an adolescent night alone, sort of a snapshot of life. Then, BAM , twist ending. You got me on that one.

And the number of versions of the tale certainly speak to the resonating power of the vampire fable. And you think you caught a bit of that in this with the ability of the vampire character to rapidly turn the mundane into the horrific.

I give you 5 stars just for the Bugle reference. ;) You know, the first time I watched Dracula, I was in my twenties, and it scared the holy crap outta me! I couldn’t go into my bathroom without opening the shower curtain to be sure the tall Nosferatu wasn’t going to peek out over the top of the curtain. :0
