Comments on 'Nouvelle Bardot: A Philosophical Exploration of the Pen Name That Is a Horrible Miscalculation of Bad French Translation, An Indie Band, and A Sex Goddess'

Does it really have to make sense, I mean come on, this is a creative place...maybe I can just pass off ridiculousness as being ironic?

Picking a pen name.

Mon deiu. : (

While I was pondering over such complex matters as nom de plumes, Serge Gainsbourg's, _Comic Strip_ ended and was soon preceeded by Nouvelle Vague's self titled album.

(insert lightbulb over head moment)

Nouvelle Vague...that sounds kinda deck.

No wait, you can't be one of those cliche idiots who names themself after a band!

And then, I glanced over my desk, and what do I see?

My framed picture of a pouting Brigitte Bardot.

Oui, oui!

Okay, hmm...

Nouvelle Brigitte...no.

Brigitte Vague...hmm.

Nouvelle Bardot...kinda catchy...

So, I type it in.

Not more than a day later, when I was a wee bit less delusional that I realize that Nouvelle translates as "news".

News Bardot? How stupid.

Whatever. I've thought of changing it...but I'd hate to confuse everyone.

If it makes you feel any better, ‘nouvelle’ is the feminine form of the adjective with the direct translation being ‘new’. Masculine would be ‘nouveau’. ‘The News’ would be, in French, ‘Les Nouvelles’. See, your cute, catchy name actually does translate correctly to ‘New Bardot’, which I would acclaim as terribly accurate were I to be flirtatious. But honestly, I have no idea what you look like, so…rambling! Sorry. Thanks for sharing.
LoA
