That's it, it was over. I was done. I'd had enough, and I was going home now. And then moving to North Dakota. I turned to walk away.
Jodi's hand was still on my shoulder, holding me in place. It was a gentle grip.
"I got your message," she said.
"Look, I'm having a bad day," I mumbled. "I'm sorry for everything, please, just forget about all this." My head was swimming toward the exit, and my body was desperate to follow.
Jodi grabbed my arm. "I tried to call you back, but the number was disconnected."
"Huh?" This was news. "What number did you dial?"
"I don't remember. But maybe my brother wrote it wrong on the message or something."
"Yeah, maybe."
"Did you know you're not in the student directory?"
_She looked me up?_ "I had no idea. Sorry about that."
"Stop apologizing. I've been trying to get ahold of you for three days."
"I thought you were with Mendez?"
"Mendez is a tool. I hate movies like this. So… you want to go get some sushi?"
