I woke up to an annoying buzzing sound. This was remarkable, because until this morning, sounds were just sounds. I had never been annoyed before. Or happy, or cranky, or confused. I had never been bored with eating sap, sap, sap, nothing but sap. I had never been thankful for the ants' protection or disgusted by the fact that they eat my... well, let's not go there. I had never been scared when a gust of wind almost blew me off a stem and into who knows where.
