I had to speak to Dr. Proto and hope he had the answers I sought. I slept fitfully that night again. The nightmares would come of that I was certain. I felt compelled in my dreams to kill. Again and again. The thrill was overwhelming, to find an new victim. Each night these nightmares came to me. I tried not to sleep. The visions and voices in my head were strongest during REM sleep. Vivid. In the morning at the market I saw her. Her hair was golden. Her eyes sky blue. I followed her. I learned that she had a daughter that she was due to pick up at school at three. I followed her for a week and knew of her every habit. That night outside her house I watched her. She would be out to put the trash out in a minute, a creature of her routine.
