Comments on 'Mirror, Mirror'

The abandoned cathedral loomed above her, one large white spire emerging like a beacon from the black forest around it. Lost as she was, Reggie ran towards it, racing the ominous clouds that were threatening to break over her at any moment. She emerged into the clearing, finding half of the structure had long since become a casualty to a past war.

Reggie stumbled inside just as a crack of thunder heralded the first rain. Cursing her own stupidity and recklessness, she threw herself on to a creaking pew in one of the remaining side chapels, hoping years of mildew wouldn’t cause it to collapse beneath her. Looking around, she saw that nothing remained except some crumbling wall mosaics and in one corner an old mirror, tarnished with age.

_“Regina,”_ a voice whispered.

Her heart caught in her chest and she sat up, looking around the small area. The reflective surface of the mirror shimmered as though caught by light, though there was none.

_“Regina,”_ it whispered. _“Come, tell me what you most desire.”_
