Adam Croft's Stories

Well, I guess this is the first place where I can introduce myself as a writer! By day, I run an online marketing company based in the east of England, but I've always had a burning desire to write and be published. I've had poetry published, but my literary ambition is to be published as a novelist.

I'm twenty-one and live in the same town in which I was born and raised. I like to immerse myself in a wide range of activities and actively read up on subjects I come across if I don't already know anything about them. I hope this will prove to be a strong foundation for a wide range of stories.

I feel most comfortable writing evocative pieces; emotional, descriptive narrative based around the crime and thriller genres. I have academic qualifications in Criminal Psychology, which has formed a basis for my interest in this field.

The feeling of immense pleasure and satisfaction tore through him like a raging torrent. He’d done it.

For twenty-seven long, tortuous years they’d made his life hell. They’d made him feel worthless; insignificant. They had made him feel small, they had belittled him with their lack of compassion and support. Everything he’d ever done was pointless; every ambition he’d ever had was pathetic. After all, children should be seen and not heard.

The passing time was immeasurable. He stood stooped over their limp, lifeless bodies. The wry smile which broke out on his face signified an unforeseen feeling of smugness – one which superceded that of any expected relief a man might feel at the end of his greatest ordeal.

The irony was not lost on Daniel. In life, they had never offered him a single word of encouragement or support. The act of ending their lives, however, had uncovered his true purpose in life. He was hungry for more.

Sunshine flooded into the room with the dawn of a new day, beating across his eyelids like rays of fire. Slowly and painfully, he awoke. A cursory glance at his alarm clock suggested to him that he should roll over and return to his world of innocent slumber, but something was there.

As he re-entered the land of the living that foul, rancid taste reminded him of his latest wild drink and drug-fuelled night. But something else was there. Something deep; something sinister. Like a bullet through his brain, he was hit by the dark realisation of what he had done. He knew it was wrong, but it felt so, so good.

Desperate For Attention

“I refuse to be ignored!” shouted the man with the long, drawn-out face. His greasy, clogged-up hair cascaded down his face with all the charm and elegance of an unkempt animal. His disheveled appearance served only to reinforce the threatening tone of his interjection.

“You told me someone would be with me in five minutes! You promised me!”

“Sir, we are very busy today and I’m afraid you will have to wait your turn like everybody else.”

The till attendant was starting to become rather irked by the impatience of certain customers.

“I’m not like everybody else! I demand to be seen to! I refuse to be ignored!”

He reached for his inside jacket pocket as he maintained his deathly grip of eye contact with the attendant. She sensed a burning passion; a desperation in his eyes. For a moment, perhaps, she sensed power and satisfaction.

The shot rang out and the attendant slumped to the floor. A pool of blood formed around her, seeping from her head; symbolic of her short, unfulfilled life ebbing away.
