Chance’s mind was in no way calm, but she wasn’t thinking about anything in particular. Her mind was literally buzzing, she felt a vibrating sensation. It spread all over her body. Getting married, she thought, _ Chance Diamond. Mrs. Diamond. Mrs. Aaron Diamond…_was all she could think. Words and pictures were flying past her at the speed of light.
Myru gave Chance a small push, and Chance began her decent. She walked slowly, thinking that if it weren’t for those failed brakes, she would have someone escorting her to Aaron. She looked up at him, halfway down the aisle, as he stood at the altar and smiled, and the worst happened.
Chance didn’t really feel the lace catch her heel, but she seemed to know, halfway down, that it was inevitable. She hit the carpet with a thud. In trying to catch her fall, she had thrown the bouqet in front of her. Looking up, she saw it at Aarons feet. He picked up the flowers, went to her, and helped her up. He kissed her gently, and led her up to the altar.

I look at you a lot. Probably more than is mentally healthy. But seriously, it is your fault. You were always the the geeky boy in class. I’ve known you since kindergarten, you’ve been in all my classes. You were the one no one considered. You wore glasses. But last summer, you ditched the glasses, and i don’t know what else you did, but suddenly, you’re hot. Granted, you do have pimples, but you’re hot. You have gorgeous hair, even better eyes. You make me want to die, because you’re perfect looking, and I’m not. You’re fragile like an angel, and I can’t decide whether you’re heavenly looking or evilly sexy. But you hurt me so badly. You have no idea what it took to pick myself up and walk away. And I’ll admit that I still look at you, but I will never, ever talk you again. I won’t subject myself to that. I may be depressed at times, and I may love vampires, but I’m in no way sadistic. I won’t hurt myself again, though I’d love dearly to hurt you. Every tiny ripple in the water was a wave to them, attemping to pull them in. The little pebbles fought to stay on land, but some of them simply had to fall. These pebbles wouldn’t come back from the water easily. Neither would Keira. This wasn’t something she could shake off.

She picked up the biggest rock she could find around her feet, and threw it as far as she could into the lake. She let out a yell of exasperation, and walked away. She was coming back. He was sitting right where Jamie had been.
Looking down, he saw something at the bottom of the fountain. A shining, silver gun lay at the bottom on a chain.

I like my things in order. I like to be able to have rules to follow. Without a system of organization, how can one expect to keep one’s life in check? A person simply must be able to have something to tell them where they should be and when, musn’t they?

I like to keep lists. They’re simple things, easy to follow. I plan to make a grocery list after this. How can I expect to know what to buy if I don’t plan it carefully? Surely I cannot remember everything! I make lists of the things I need to do, the people I need to meet, and even the things I have done so far. I don’t see why everyone doesn’t. I like order.

Meanwhile, she insists on disorder. Nothing in her house is put in a proper place with things that are like it. Everything is simply placed messily wherever she last finished with it. She is a very spontaneous person, you know. She doesn’t plan things, she does them as she feels. She’s so carefree, I don’t understand how she can do it. After all, one must have plans. I plan to propose tonight.

Matt had asked Jamie to meet him in the courtyard, at that fountain. Matt and Jamie both lived about a half an hour away from here. It was just twilight in July, cool and comfortable. It seemed there were a million fireflies in the courtyard; the perfect example of a romantic night. He made one last check that the necklace was in its box, for the millionth time, took a deep breath, and walked towards the willows. Parting the thin, membranous curtain, Matt took a ragged breath.
Jamie was lying back onto the edge of the fountain under a boy. Her fingers were wrapping his hair around themselves, pulling his face to hers. Her ankles were intertwined with his, and his hands were caressing her face and hair.
Matt let out a strangled sob sort of thing, and Jamie pulled away from the boy. When she saw Matt, her eyes grew wide, and she stammered.
“I-I—”
“I wish it were real.” he said, taking the gun necklace out of its the box and throwing it at her. He sat, stunned and unmoving for a moment. This was definitely a first. But Matt didn’t accept this kind of crap from a girl. He was Matt Branded. He wasn’t going to give up.
Matt walked over the railing and looked out on the courtyard in front of him. There was a fountain in the middle of it, with a dim light in the middle. He couldn’t see it, because the fountain was hidden by a circle of weeping willows, but he knew it all too well. He went back to a time, a time when he was fourteen, a time before he had become this way.
Jamie had been Matt’s dream girl. She was a cute little punkette that Matt had met at a Paramore concert. She was funny, nice, and Matt had his attentions focused on her completely. After they had been dating for almost a year, he bought her a gorgeous silver necklace with a gun charm on it.

Matt was really shallow. In his mind’s eye, he was great. Gorgeous, rich, girls at his feet. He knew just how to treat a girl to get her to sleep with him in ten minutes flat. A fact that he was proud of, and planned to use right about that time.
Matt walked over to the gap between the balconies, and leaned on the railing, sexy and smooth looking. He reached over the gap and touched the long, thin fingers that hung out over the balcony from the arm she was sobbing into.
The girl jumped. Her green eyes widened, but this time she made no effort to run or wipe her eyes.
“W-who are you?” she gasped.
“I’m Matt. But why does she cry?” he said, touching her jaw lightly with his fingertips.
“Because she is alone.” she sighed.
With that, Luna pulled herself into a graceful stance, and flew back into her room.

He got up and walked to the door. Matt was seventeen, and a rebel. He had been sent to this huge, castlemansion to live with his grandfather. Matt’s parents had figured that living in a huge house with an old man and no girls, alcohol, or cars could only do him good. Yeah right, Matt thought. Look at that girl by the window…mine. Matt was full of himself, which in the end, was his downfall.
Opening the door out onto the terrace, he saw that his room was in fact right next to the girl’s room. He knew this because between his terrace and hers, there was about a two foot gap, and on the other side of the gap, he saw her long, fine hair spilling over the edge of the terrace. Her face was buried in her arm, which was on the railing between the two of them, and she was sobbing violently. Perched on a bench, there, crying, Matt thought that she was beautiful. He thought of the things he would do and say to get to her heart. He would gently caress her cheek, he would kiss her gently, just to get in her pants.

It was a silent procession, and he listened to his shoes squeak embarassingly on the marble floors. They passed countless doors, each of them shut. Matt thought privately that this was much like some distant horror movie he had seen. How right he was.
Finally, after traveling up a few flights of stairs, Flora stopped suddenly, as if remembering something, and turned to the door next to her. She reached out her hand, and let it hover above the doorknob for a second, before putting her hand on it and opening the door. She let the door swing open.
“Your room, Matthew.” She breathed.
“You can call me Matt if you like, everyone else does.” He said in attempt to be nice.
Flora blinked at him, as if she didn’t comprehend this. She was so beautiful…she didn’t look the type to have problems.
Matt finally reached the door, and banged the brass knocker against the door a few times. A moment later, a young girl with full lips and white-blonde hair came to the door. She seemed no older than nine, but she looked almost exactly like the girl on the terrace. It couldn’t have been the same girl, the girl upstairs was much older. But the likeness was remarkable.
The girl smiled weakly, exposing perfect, white teeth. Would he ever accomplish the task of exploring all of it?
Thunder roared overhead as he made his way past huge windows, none of which he could see into. It seemed as though there was dark coming from the house, the way light does. Matt looked up, and saw only one window with a light in it. The window was actually a balcony, now that he got a good look at it. The thing that surprised him, though, was not the light, but what he saw bathed in it.
Leaning against the railing, crying, was a pale girl.
