Nikolai turned as he heard someone approaching from behind. The man was tall with silver hair and dark blue eyes, he wore a long black great coat, with a silver breast plate under it covered in runic symbols. Around his neck he word a simple rosarium that was shaped as a cross but this one was imbued with a blue light. But most remarkable about the man were his weapons, he did not carry the Sanctus astrum nor the Sanctus telum as most bothers did. Among his weapons he carried a naginata strapped to his back whose handle was covered with ancient symbols of power. On his right side he carried a silver revolver that had bullets blessed by the high priests themselves, and on his left a sacred katana that had been forged from some unknown metal. It was said the sword would glow in the presence of the filthy vampires that stalked this world, but few had ever partnered with this man. You realize you probably could have questioned him more The man said. My name is Hikari, Nikolai and I am here to help you.

I will sleep now. Let it take me into the world of dreams and falsehoods. Where peace reigns at the exact time as chaos. Where I can imagine anything and yet nothing at all. And sleep like I had died until it is time yet again to awaken for another day. Oh to sleep forever would be pleasing would it not? I think so and yet at the same time no. Because then who would take care of the promises I have made? The promises I have failed to keep? Who then would I have to guide me? The dreams would take me. The chaos and peace intertwined. To sleep I go, with nothing but a tired soul.

I stood there, sword drawn defending myself from the beast. It was cold and heartless drawing my strength from me. Suddenly it leapt away and to my left. Right past me into the midst of my dear friend, it cackles and jumps into him all the while he grows weaker. I roar in pain and anguish. This is something I cannot defeat, something that my friend must do on his own. I promised to protect them, all of them, and yet I have failed my task. All I can do now is pray for his safety and strength and that he will survive the demons destructive nature.

Chains grate across the metal flooring. The chains are heavy. The draw me down and make me wish I were dead. The whip cracks again. I rise up and try to return to mining for gold. I look around. Bodies lie strewn around, my friends, and my family all destroyed by the wielders of the whips and their masters. My wings are broken, my soul shattered. I have no hope, no peace, and no rest. How will I escape? How will I return to what I was? I know not.

The truth of a pure heart

The demons surround me. I know not what to do. But they don’t know who they are dealing with, I am not one to succumb to the demons so easily. They can eat away at my sanity, destroy my thoughts, kill my dreams, and even take away my freedom. But I don’t fear that. I will not let them do that to me. I draw my sword and charge. I swing not with effort but careless ease for I know that I am stronger than they. Stronger than what they believe. I carelessly cut through them like death reaping the souls of the living. My heart is a pure one I won’t let them taint it! Every one of them I touch bursts into a flash of blinding light. My sword flashes among them moving even to fast for their inhuman eyes to see. It sings with a beauty that no human voice can match. Finally they are all dead or incinerated and I think of the ones who fall when taking on these demons and wonder when it will be my turn to fall.
