RasberryIceCream's Stories

Hallo. I'm a 11 year old girl. My friend showed me the ficlets site, and I absolutely fell in love with it. I really like to write stories, but I'm much too lazy to write them all down with a pencil and paper, so I prefer typing. I must admit that the character limit is a bit of a challenge for me, but I think that once I get my ideas down on this site, I'll maybe get a good, full story finished.

The Diary of a Scientist Part 1

December 25, 2085
Dear Diary, the South Pole is terrible. Some of the team members are starting to regret this Christmas, but I think the discovery of a new animal is as good as a holiday can get. The last time an explorer came down here, he said he had seen a… different kind of animal. It was described to be something like a horned seal, but he didn’t get a very close look at it. Our team, specialized in biology, has been sent here to try to find out what it is.

We’ve been searching by the edge of the ice and the air holes, since judging by what the explorer had to say, the animal was a mutated seal. So far, all we’ve found were some horns. It’s a bit weird, because it doesn’t look like a regular animal horn, but more like a unicorn. We don’t know if that is a good thing or not, but I do think so.

December 26, 2085
We were walking across the ice that seemed stable enough searching for more air holes in the ice. Then suddenly, the ice started cracking until John fell through. I’m speechless.

Alexa Buckman stood at the edge, staring at the amazing sight before her. Her two parkas, sealskin boots, and wolfskin hood with incredibly thick fur provided just enough protection from the freezing cold that was Antarctica. She was the only one left in her group that hadn’t fallen through the ice to an unlucky death.

When the creature had finally broken all the way through the ice, Alex caught sight of what it looked like. At first glance, it appeared to be a seal with a unicorn horn on its head, but as it stretched, she saw a peek of the sleek, charcoal black feathers underneath the flap of skin that protected them from the water.

When it finally settled itself, it watched her with its dark eyes. She felt there was something unnatural about them, and started feeling frightened. Her mind raced through the events that happened in the past few hours. How could have her teammates fallen through the ice just like that? She remembered spotting a dark shape swimming underneath.
And then,

It attacked.
