Known Issues

We tried really hard to stamp out all the bugs before we flipped the switch on this thing, but some crept in anyway. Here’s what we know has some “issues” right now. We’ll update this page as we move along adding (hope not) and removing (hopefully) things.

Anywhere you see “I”, that’s me.

Current Issues

502 Error with Photos: I just saw this one today for the first time. For some photos on the inspiration pages, you might see a 502 proxy error instead of the story form. I still need to investigate and see if I can figure out what’s causing it. We’ll get it fixed as soon as possible.

OpenID: We have some general weirdness with OpenID. If you try to log in and it returns an error, try logging in a couple more times. It usually works the second time you try for some reason.

Things We Think We’ve Fixed (or possibly made worse)

Tags: Well, one tag problem was fixed, and it looks like all of our tags for stories published before this morning are gone. I’m working with the tagging folks now to see what the deal is. Hopefully, they’ll magically re-appear shortly (it’s apparently a database problem, and they’re working on it).

Drafts and Publish Date: Update 3/12: This should be fixed now. If you have a story saved as draft and then publish it, it keeps the original created at date, so it doesn’t show up in recent stories. Oops! We’ll hopefully get this one fixed Monday.

Story Length: Update 3/12: This should be fixed now. If you still see issues, let us know! We’re seeing some issues with the “live” character count not jiving with the count the server sees. We’re looking into this one, but it may be a little while before we have it fixed. It stinks, I know, but for now, please aim for stories of about 1015 characters. That should get you around any of our story character count mistakes. Update: We know where the problem is, and what causes it (character encoding and a bug in Ruby). We’ll probably have a fix out Monday. I apologize for this one… we definitely should have caught it, and I know it makes writing stories a pain. We’ll get it taken care of!

General Flakiness: We’re still trying to figure out what our baby, I mean the site, needs to run and be happy. Things feel pretty stable right now, thankfully. As more people find the site and we get more traffic (well, hopefully), we may see some more weirdness. We’ll be monitoring performance and errors logs and fix the stuff we find.

If you find others, please send us feedback! We’ll look at them as soon as we can and see what’s up. If you find something that doesn’t make sense, or you think could be better, we’d like to know that too.

Thanks for playing!
