Staying Above the Water

Do you ever feel like you’re sinking, sinking far below the surface? Do you ever feel too far down to see the light above, not sure which way is up? Do you ever feel too out of oxygen and energy to resurface, even though you see the light? Have you ever been caught in a riptide of emotions, water pulling every which way, all ways leading to your being torn limb from limb? Have you ever been emotionally worn past the point a workout endorphins can cure, and there isn’t enough THC in your chocolate for the anandamide to bind? What do you do when unbreakable steel starts to bend, and the unstoppable force slows down?

When sinking, get rid of dead weight pulling you down. When you can’t tell which way is up, let a breath out and follow the bubbles back up. When you can’t swim anymore, reach out your arms- you’ll float up. When you’re caught in a riptide, don’t struggle, swim parallel to the shore until the waves calm down. When endorphins fail, stress can be released through tears.

When steel bends, pray.
