The movie ended about an hour later. But not without more scary music, a completely horrible climax that involved the killer, the main characters, and running through a dark house, and an equally horrible denouement which involved the killer, the main characters, and running through a dark house.

Most all of the movie was like that, actually.

Four times during the movie (when the music calmed and I relaxed, coming out of the fetal position in my seat) my elbow bumped into his. He didn’t give any indication of noticing.

My stomach flipped each time, and I pulled my elbow in towards me

But now the movie was over. I untangled myself from my seat and stood up.

Jake got up as well, and we headed out.

“Good movie, wasn’t it?” Jake asked. He sounded completely serious, but something in his eye had me convinced that he was teasing me.

“Of course,” I responded as coolly as I could. “I especially liked the part that involved the killer, the main characters, and running through that dark house.”
