When fifth grade came, Jorden had been living in her room for the entire summer, and was probably the palest she had ever been. That only lead to her being made fun of more.

Her teacher was a jerk this year, maybe because she also chuckled quietly at Jorden on certain occasions. Jorden didn’t notice. She was too busy reading, which she did maybe a little too much.

Jorden’s parents had another baby in the begining of the summer, whom they christened Ian, and they thought he was an angel. Jorden thought otherwise. Even though he was still a little baby, he seemed to hate Jorden.

On Jorden’s sixth actual report card, her teacher wrote, “Jorden is quiet, and clumsy. Maybe think about a counselor.”

That comment changed Jorden’s life.
