I began walking upstream towards the waterfall. Again, I had to wind myself around the grass and it took some extra effort to stay close to the river without getting too close. Also, the closer I came to the waterfall the river widened into the sort of pool one normally finds at the bases of waterfalls. As I approached the cliff and the waterfall, I found a secluded inlet away from the rushing water. It was at that point that I became aware of exactly how dirty I felt and how thirsty I had become. I was extremely leery of drinking the water, out of a sense of self-preservation. However, I knew that my water supply from the backpack would not last long for half of the water containers had been empty to begin with.
