So one day, I stumble upon this fabulous website called Ficlets.

Sign in through AIM . Okay.

Oh. Insert pen name here.

Pen name. Hm. Okay.

And I’m sitting there staring at the computer screen, trying to think of something witty or mildly literature-related, except my mind is drawing a complete blank.

And I don’t want to use any of my other lame screen names. Sometimes I feel the need to shake things up a little bit. Thus, a new pen name was rather necessary.

Think. Think.

And then I hear it through my headphones:

When I think of heaven
Deliver me in a black-winged bird
I think of flying down into a sea of pens and feathers
And all other instruments of faith and sex and God
In the belly of a black-winged bird.

Does anyone else here love Counting Crows? If you haven’t heard of them, you should definatEly check them out, because they’re fabulous. This particular song is called Rain King.

From then on, I’ve been known as [pens&feathers] here at ficlets.

    Excellent! I always kind of wondered. The first album of the Counting Crows is really great, and some of the lyrics are among my all-time favorites. For me, it’s hard to match the melancholy mood of “Round Here”, with such unforgettable lines as ”... like a ghost
    into the fog where no one notices
    the contrast of white on white” and “she has trouble acting normal when she’s nervous”. Maybe we should start an Adam Duritz posse. :-)
