The Legend of Batak Beatrix

by Batak Beatrix

Many moons ago, a group of undergraduates studying anthropology stayed up far in to the night, speaking of the world at large and the injustices being done to students everywhere. They spoke of the need for champions, with secret powers that could combat the evil of their professors and later, the world.

“Well, why shouldn’t it be us?” one girl asked, mischief in her eyes. “Who knows better how to fight the evil that presses upon us than those who study the past?”

Their faces aglow with the hysteria that comes from all-night paper writing, they formed what would be known as the world’s very first anthropological gang. Each took a name as their own, indicative of their special power. Thus the legendary Switchblade Susie, Cavalry Calhoone, Rip Rio, Atl Atl Ana, and Nebulous Nero were born.

And what of that girl with the pirate smile? Imbued with the power of the ancient staff that has now passed down into Indonesian legend, she has been likened to the fierce Norse Valkyries of old.

She became Batak Beatrix.

I already have my own legend:

One inch = 500 miles. Capitols are designated in BOLD , Regional Seats are underlined. Circled number designates National Highway.

I admit it doesn’t seem like much of a legend, but I wish people paid more heed to it so I wouldn’t end up with so many lost tourists getting lost in my left ear and having to be rescued by People’s Militia units.

    Howie – Omg. That’s fantastic.
YW – An atl atl is a spear thrower used in hunting that dates back to the Paleolithic.
MBTM – Nope. There are no e’s. It’s either spelled atl atl or atlatl depending on who is doing the spelling.

OK, the archaeology gang thing was fantastic, but to be honest, one of these stars is going to Howie for his comment. You may have the other 4 though.

Oh ye olden days of undergraduate insanity. We really were born out of late night madness. I think it was the Neanderthal paper that really put us over the edge. Did we ever pick a supervillian or were the profs an autonomous collective?
