Purple, Color of Royalty

by J.B. Williams

“Royalty.” Memon began. “That is what this color and our emblem represents. Our divine right to rule. It is not the color of the commoners. You will never make that mistake again. Guards, execute him.” With that, a peasant would never be seen or heard again. “That was a bit harsh…” Izu began. “No, it was a swift and fitting punishment.”

The royal family ruled this small nation with a Hannibal code. A thief will have his hands removed, a rapist will be castrated, a liar will have his tongue removed. But, as generations passed, the laws have become broader; the punishments more severe. Which brings us to today, this moment, caused by Memon ordering the execution of a peasant on aggrandized charges of treason, which hastened a coup.

“Sir, the palace is under siege! We must hide your family!” yelled a guard, shortly before being surrounded. “The treacherous reign of the family of Memon ends tonight. In your arrogance you embody all that is the royal seal and color except leadership. It’s over.”
