Second Choice

by Laine P. Grey

(Second choice)

It was his turn to fight the monster that had taken his grandfather, mother, uncle. He had to defeat it.
His only weapon was laughter. Attitude was the key. But somehow, it seemed as if he had nothing.
Somedays, the sun didn’t shine. Otherdays, it looked as though it would shine forever.
Day by day, he grew weaker as the monster ate away at him. Wanting only more of him.
But, he was determined.
Day by day, his will grew stronger, and the monster couldn’t take over his mind.
And with a final breath, he looked at the shining sky and whispered. I Have Won.

This is also good, monster/ mind control and all, good theme, but I like the lost hope feeling of the Helene ficlet. had a lot of emotion/feeling in it.

I like this one more because you could take it different ways; was it an internal deamon, a literal monster, some one else, a desise (I personally go with the first) an I love the last line And with a final breath, he looked at the shining sky and whispered. “I Have Won.”
    wonderful

It’s actually supposed to be a kid’s battle with cancer, but I like the different interpretations.
