“Parus sed Potens,” Sam remarked while holding up a 4-leaf clover.

Larry peeked over his book, “Come again?”

“It means ‘small but powerful’ in Latin. Don’t you have Latin in 7th period with Ms. McGreggor?”

“I took Latin because it’s the only language where all you do is translate stories instead of speaking it. I didn’t take it to learn anything,” Larry shook his head and lifted his book up to mask whatever it was Sam was about to do next.

“Well, I think it’s a neat language. I bet if Fall Out Boy sang a song in Latin, you’d be more interested in learning it.”

“Don’t make me go all Hiro Protagonist on your ass, Sam.” Larry could just imagine how satisfying that would be.

“Hero-what?”

“Hiro Protagonist. A character from Snowcrash. Aww forget it. It’s too complicated for you.” Larry snorted and got up to leave.

“No. Wait. What does that mean? Tell me.” Sam dropped the clover as he reached for his back pack.

    this is good. just in the sentence ” i bet ‘of’ Fall Out Boy sang a song…” it should be ‘if’ =) otherwise pretty good.

    Good dialogue, and I get the references without knowing the background material. It reminds me of days in the library in highschool.
