Ficlets

a simple smile

She walks down the hall
Barely aware of where shes going
Occasionally bumping into a locker or elbow
Conscious of only her own feet and nothing else
Thinking about nothing
Just walking
Yet thinking about that one person
Wishing he was beside her
She reaches her locker
Puts the books inside and reaches for new ones
Fumbles with the lock
Shuts the door, heads to a new class
Sees that one special person
And that makes all the difference
He smiles at her
She smiles back inside her head
Pretends she doesn’t notice
The class ends
He waits up for her
They walk to the next class together
And inside her head screams joy
But he doesn’t hear it
Because she doesn’t show it
