In the beginning the Earth was the sole creature in existence. Her loneliness was palpable and thus she birthed the sky, stars, sun and moon, all to accompany her on her journeys. But it satisfied her not, for none were capable of appreciating the gift.

Deep in her caverns beneath her surface, she created a womb and therein bore two children, the first Men. When the brothers were birthed, one was stillborn. He was named Fen and the Earth, still young and willing to interfere with her creations, breathed life into his dead form. His twin, born with health, was named Nord.

Nord delighted in dancing in the green pastures of his mother, and he enjoyed the company of the beasts she created to amuse him. He learned to be a mighty hunter who respected the creatures of the Earth. He of the Hunt and the Horns.

Fen had touched the Darkness and returned with it to the Earth, and it was named by Men as Dor Dæraug. And in the Darkness Fen became the First Ruler of Death, the Summoner of the Spirits of the Slain.
