Everything I remember

by Ana Cristina

Searching for MP3 ’s on the internet, I see one by ABBA called “Chiquita.” Could it be..? I dared not hope but clicked on it anyway. I never would’ve guessed ABBA sung this song. When it was finished downloading, I pressed play. It was the song, the same one.

“Chiquitica, you and I know..”

I haven’t heard the song since I was eight at most. More than ten years have passed. Many moons, many memories have filled the space that opened up in me the day my mother told me she’d sold that record player.

The song is exactly like I remember it. Exactly. You know the way that something can seem so incredible when you are a child, and how it is revealed not to be everything your memories built it up to be when you come across it again, years later? This song destroys that logic. It is everything I remember it to be.

It’s amazing how you took something that seemed so simplistic and made it so meaningful. I always hated autobiographical or non-fiction essays because they were so factual and restraining. But yours was the opposite. Great.
    5/5, all of it.

I found this amazing, touching almost. It was written in such a way that made me want to keep reading you forever. I loved your usage of spanish instead of just putting in the english translations. It totally put in a great atmosphere and made everything a bit more personal since it was more real.

I definitely understand the sentiment here. You’ve captured the joy of that moment where you figure out what that song is that you have stuck in your head with meaningful nostalgia, and it’s beautifully done.
