The mining of these conflict diamonds, as they are sometimes called, is usually done in private with the local area citizens either mauled or enslaved as miners by Revolutionary United Front (R.U.F.), rebels attempting to dictate the diamond mining fields, because who would willingly fund something so horrible? No one would. In December 2000 (2001) United Nations General Assembly recognized the full volume of the Blood diamond situation and came up with a resolution to sever connections between the illegal diamonds and wars and armed conflicts. But obviously that did not work, seeing as how there are still problems.
