Why (Brebelles' challenge)

by Blossom Ruoqen

When flowers droop and melt way down,
and every one on earth must frown.
When buildings burn and bridges fall,
and everything that’s evil calls.

When all your best and truest friends
go and turn their backs.
And all the people in the world,
that’s where courage lacks.

When every single flower,
as if acid hit, must melt.
When all the pain and suffering
of this world is felt.

When all this happens then I’ll stop
and look up at the sky.
As all the mayhem runs amok,
I’ll ask the question “Why?”

Nice rhythm and flow to it, though it seems to have wound up a little depressing instead of the uplifting, hopeful peace the challenge asked for. On its own, a lovely, touching poem; in terms of the challenge, didn’t feel very uplifted.

I agree with THX , but I also thought that there was some pretty powerful imagery in there. The word choice was good.
