Why do people say to bring home the bacon?

Now don’t get me wrong I love bacon but why can’t you bring home another breakfast food like…SAUSAGE!or something like toast and eggs? Maybe your not a breakfast person at all. Cuz most people don’t even eat breakfast. Anyhoowayz…
If you are one of those people maybe you should bring home the Burger or curly fries. How about we skip the entree’s and go straight to dessert! I think it should be to bring home the cherry pie. (with the side of chocolate icecream.) But hey don’t go by me I’m just saying,...

    I like this!!!! Tee hee. So…since you started now you gotta continue. You need to go to the Library or Laurens or, or, or your sisters or something, cause I wanna read more. I’m gonna do something like this. Like ask a question and like answer it or just talk. Usually when I just talk it ends up as a song or poem. Hmmm….

    LURV YA !!!

    BrebellesMom here;
    You asked! There are actually 2 theories to the origin of this saying, the first being nice and short. The second I will add in a separate comment or two, since it is lengthy.

    The first theory being, it refers to the fact that the winner of the greased pig contest at country fairs traditionally keeps the pig and thus brings home the bacon.

    The second theory goes all the way back to 1111A.D. and the town of Dunmow in England. A noblewoman, wishing to encourage marital happiness, decreed that “any person from any part of England going to Dunmow and humbly kneeling on two stones at the church door may claim a side of bacon, if he can swear that for twelve months and a day he has never had a household brawl or wished himself unmarried.
    So the “Dunmow flitch”, .....to be continued…...in next post.

    “Dunmow flitch”, as the side of bacon was called, became a symbol of domestic felicity & a man bringing home the bacon would be a rare and happy fellow. Let cynics make what they will of the record that in the period of five centuries (1244-1772) there were only eight claimants of the prize.

    So here’s to learning something today, LOL .

    Great ponderings though!
