A girl with kaleidoscope eyes…

The line from a Beatles song popped immediately into my head when I saw her. She wasn’t too much to look at, not really out of the ordinary. Just there. Her brown hair was pulled neatly away from her face, tied with a small, white ribbon. I didn’t know why I kept staring at her, but I couldn’t turn away.

She locked eyes with me, as though she knew I had been staring. “I’m Ana,” she said, but my vocal chords weren’t working properly, so I couldn’t reply. Her eyes, they weren’t just one color. They were a rainbow, like the small plastic kaleidoscope I’d received the Christmas I was seven. The hues kept moving, swirling, changing before I really got a good look.

She smiled at me, a soft smile, and with a dancer’s walk, she left, disappeared beyond the horizon.

“Who is she?” I asked another girl. “Ana? The girl with the kaleidoscope eyes?”

She gave me a weird look, the “crazy new girl” one. “Ana? But Devon…” she paused. “Ana’s blind. Her eyes have no color.”
But they did.

    Ha, Someday. If this is the Ficlet you had reference to in your note, it totally doesn’t suck, you must be mistaken. In fact, it’s quite the hook, the last line really makes you want to know more. Five stars. Again.

    Love how the picture ties in with this… it definitely fits “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”, haha. I like your writing style a lot with this one; very natural.

    By the way, thanks for your comment on “Silence is Golden”! And honestly, I just picked a picture that inspired me, not necessarily one that fit with the story. Thanks again, I appreciate it.
