The Man

by Terminus

One wintry day a man found something that looked like a seed lying on the ground. He remembered all the beautiful plants he had seen in the spring and summer, and, hoping to create another, decided to hang on to the seed. But he forgot about it, and the seed never got the chance to germinate.
Another man found another seed. Remembering all the beautiful plants he had seen in the spring and summer, he decided to keep the seed to plant. But he left the seed in a moist place. When spring came it was covered in mold and never got the chance to germinate.
A third man found a third seed that brought to mind the beautiful plants he had seen in spring and summer. Deciding to try and grow one of these plants, he watched carefully over the seed until spring came, when he planted it.
Nothing happened. He found that the seed had rotted from the inside. But the same happened the next winter, and, trying again, he watched a tall and strong tree grow from the husk.

I love this, and I can’t put my finger on exactly why. That makes me like it more.

Interesting allegory…very scriptural or perhaps Aesop sort of feel to it, only with fewer animals. Nice twist as well with the first seed not even growing.
