Why do we say the apple of someones eye?

Apples are good but come on now they arent that great to look at! If i am forced to look at a piece of fruit then i think i’d want to look at something more interesting like a… oh i dont know a… pineapple. then again, the word pineapple has the word apple in it too. so maybe i’d look at something like a kamquat! yeah thats it! kamquats seem like a fruit that could occupy a lot of someone’s time. Dont you? But i think that comparing someone or something you love, like or admire seems dumb to me? Ah oh well.

    I just love your ponderings…..here is the origin:

    The first “apple of the eye” was the pupil of the eye which, in ancient times, was thought to be a round object similar to the apple. As recently as Anglo-Saxon times, the same word “aeppel” meant both eye and apple. It goes without saying that the pupil of one’s eye is very precious indeed-and that’s how the expression came to mean something greatly treasured.

    I love pineapples. They’re delicious. Though if i’ve got to have a fruit jammed in my eye, i suppose i’d go with a raisin. I mean how much damage could it do right? Ah well, awesome ramblings as usual buddy.

    lol. True true, you guys. Apples could do alot of damage. But D, Pineapples could poke your eye to death, literally.
