An Educational Death [place challenge]

by Dr. Mousse

School. Ah. How I would like to strangle the person who created it. But, it is there, existing, nonetheless.

A weekly routine. Wake-up. Stuggle through school. Practice. Clubs. Homework. But, today was not in my schedule.

I walk into school. But, something is wrong with the freshmen. They seem…depressed. Not the usual giggling flock of girls, not the usual pack of pranking guys. Not trying to prove their amazing existence as usual. Just, there.

Well, why should I care? Lunch comes around, as it always does. We’re completely unaware of the red-nosed, watery-eyed teachers, quietly talking in the corner.

We sit at our tables, the roar reaching its general climax, when suddenly, it drops. The principle and the nurse are quieting the crowd. They have an announcement.

“Many of you knew-know-Andrei. He was-is very sick with Leukemia. I’m afraid Andrei is no longer with us; he passed away last night.”
Silence

I’m not hungry anymore. After all, when Andrei will never eat again, why should I?

This was at my previous school which was like a second home. A fellow student dying was the most heart-breaking things ever to happen in that home. I hope I never have to experience it again. I hope you don’t either.

This happened to me in first grade. It was just like this, only elementary school. Very good description of a moment.

We had a student suddenly pass my senior year. Car accident. Driving to school. I remember many of the same scenes, only our administrators tried to keep it quiet. And the students had it figured out by second period. Brings back memories…
