The Great Gnarfor, Part One of Two

The cnidorious creature pushed away with its tentacles, drawing them back slowly and pushing them again, and began to move. The Gnarfor, a mysterious, giant jellyfish in essence, was approaching the equally large island of Sicily at a steady pace. It floated gently upwards, its few weaponary tentacles flowing alongside it. It knew it’s purpose; it knew its own fate. Its beautiful purple body, veiled by luscious pale blue skin, now held a reflexively grown bone hemisphere around it. It burst through the water.

Most would think this impossible; that a jellyfish couldn’t burst through the water to live on the surface. But as it burst through the water, wings expededly flew out from the carapace to give it lift! The Gnarfor floated a few feet from the water, onward, onward, and began to see the brilliant daylight vineyards from it, as no more than a set of purple and green lines on the countryside.

And the people of Sicily shuddered under the cold shadow of the great Gnarfor.
